Looks like it's just about that time...4 months and countless questions later....I'm back in effect and ready to log some miles.

Still a good deal of cleaning, polishing and such to be done...but I think I'll log some miles first and get to that stuff on the next sunny day. Which may not be until July the way Spring has gone here in NYC.

Anyway, here are a few shots. None of them came out all that well as the lighting and flash seem to leech the color from the decal kit. It's more gold than the yellow that comes out in the pics.

Tackled during this teardown:
-front suspension rebuilt [air ripped out]
-frame & swingarm powdercoated
-calipers rebuilt
-rotors drilled and refinished
-harness repaired & some electrics upgraded
-furniture painted (BMW Avus Black) & '74 Z1A decal kit
-hydraulic clutch rebuilt
-new chain
-new sprockets

Didn't touch the engine as I'd rebuilt that 18 months back.

I'm no mechanical wizard but this process damn-sure left me feeling more confident overall in my ability to assess and address all the surrounding systems. Thanks to all for the copious help along the way....beers on me when our paths cross.

w/ Hugon fairing I scored. I've been looking for ages for a good fairing solution that could be easily removed. .These French things were only manufactured in the late 70's - made of hot-shaped Lexan from Citroen windows from what I understand. Pretty easily mounted/removed, makes a perfect pocket & appears to be pretty indestructible..

I'll need to polish out some scratches and such but 3 stage polishing Lexan is a bitch and I'm not in much of a hurry. In the meantime, some chopper pilots from 'nam said weekly Pledge is a good way to keep the fog & light scratches away.

Wish someone would buy the rights and start remanufacturing these puppies...it's the best steering mount fairing I've come across & they made a whole line, each of which was pretty awesome. I have the original product material that came with this one...will scan and post soon.

Real nice job on the old girl! Must be a proud papa! THAT IS a funky fairing! Very Buck Rogers! Cool! GLuck!
Yes! Pledge was used extensively on the windscreens.

Yeah, it is a funky thing, but take it from me...the charm grows and grows. Especially when you find you yourself in a quiet envelope. :-p

Once you've figured out the mounting system, I'd say it's all of 5 mins on & off. Not too shabby really. They are really uncommon, and it took some serious sleuthing to scrounge one up, but they're out there.

Like I said, this one came with all of the original product glossies. I'll scan and post pics of their whole line, and any other relevant details, after the weekend.

Thanks good sir. Road trip is on the docket for this weekend if this f*^$ing frog-strangler will ever relent. June has been absolute shite in my neck of the woods.

May just bung and silicon all orifices and head out anyway.

there has been some talk on an e-mail list that i am a member of lately about these particular fairings.except i think they we're on some old european bikes.
yes i can appreciate a comfortable bubble to blaze down the road in.5 mins on or off is pretty dang effecient.
thanks for the reply,
