trying to decide on handle bars was created by JohnTaylor
Hey I have a 77 KZ 1000LTD, I have just bought a new bike for doing trips on and am now going to make my KZ my around town/ sunday morning ride bike. I want to put a set of bars on it that are a little more cafe style. Not sure if i should be going with a clubman bar, clip on's , or something else. Any thoughts/ opinions/ or pictures of KZ's with nice bars would be great. Thanks a ton.

John

Hello! Would you consider a set of superbike bars? Are you trying to achieve a certain appearance?

i had a ltd 1000 and for a change i had clubman bars set the way they ran em on old rd's or ,set mormal for clubmans......they were real fun and if it was not for the fact that any tip overs...slips in the garrage..on the lawn ...leaving in the gravel ect....and they will hit the controls housings into the tank and then you say"wow that sucks "and the dent is there for an everyday reminder...even if you say"well i'll be careful"......eventualy the weird leverage and funny position get ya.......it is no rd 400 that is for sure....good luck...superbike bars are the ticket imo...

I'll second the superbike bars. They offer a more sporty look and a slightly sporty posture. Unless you're gonna buy/make some rearsets you might find that clubmans are particularly uncomfortable.

you have to much steering lock to use clubmans without hitting the tank with switch gear or your thumbs i'm sure you would be much more comfortable with superbike bars.

Ya, im going to get a set of superbike bars for my z1 rebuild. I have a set of clubmans, i threw them on today but realized they looked cool, but werent to comfortable.

My experience with clubmans is that unless you modify the seat and/or rear sets they kill the wrists. One of the first things I did to my kz650 was put clubmans on it, and with the geometry from the stock seat to the bars my wrists were stuck cocked at an odd angle and within 20 minutes of riding they were tingling and I couldn't feel my fingers. So I ran superbike bars until I got around to the full cafe build. Now with the much lower seat the clubmans feel natural. Like everything else though, it's a personal choice and preference, this is just my experience.

If you google clubmans you should be able to find them, super bike bars you should be able to find just about anywhere. But yeah it would be great if anybody has pictures. I hven't made a decision yet. I am waiting to get pick up my Bandit, before I start doing much work to the KZ.
