341,thanks for the compliments.i actually have a zx12 frontend(thanks mark1122)that i will use on this bike.it will be a winter project as i missed out on some riding last spring when i was building the swingarm in question.there are a bunch of pictures in the projects under "my 1980 z1r and 900 projects".i do still need a r1 front wheel tho if you know of any.i built the swingarm out of 1" .065 wall 4130 cro-mo.and milled the axle plates out of a chunk of steel then tigged it all up.it is much more stable in mid corner bumps now.

531 blackbanshee,

I salute your swingarm, that is some nice work!!

The bike is fantastic, the Z1R the ultimate KZ. Very nice.

Plummer,

interesting gusset work. more "curvy". I wish I had looked at this forum when I started the project for more ideas.

I prefer more geometric shapes, but can appreciate what you are going for there.

It is so cool to see so many other people working over the KZ. I tell my wife all the time "what the 1957 Chev Bel Air is to hot rodders the KZ is to motorcylists".

341 has a very interesting Honda 160; he should spot a photo, it's not a KZ but it is super cool!!

tk11b40,thanks for the compliments.i wanted to get that 200 mm tire and 17" wheel stuffed under there without doing any frame modification and as little extension as possible and just let the swingarm kinda dictate it's own shape.i had no idea what the finished product would look like.i knew i was going to use 1" .065 cro-mo because i have already built several sets of a-arms for quads(250r's and banshee's}and have the tubing bender and experience to pull it off.i built it on my lay out table with v-blocks and lots of measurement checking.
341 needs to throw us some pics of that 160 fo sho,is it an old 160 dream or a built up crf 150?
keep us posted your bike is looking good.

Ted, hope that you don't mind a bit o' thread hijack. I am taking it to Mike Kirkpatrick in couple of hours to dyno. I will post results when done.

Here it is a '66/68 CB/CL 160/175. It is a 175 with 1mm overbore, undercut tranny, degreed cam, lightened clutch, removed stator and rotor, removed kickstarter, new Mikuni carbs and a custom 2 into 1 exhaust collector with a silencer. Most of the rest of the race field runs open pipes but they are soooooo annoying that I'd really like to run a silencer, but not at the expense of even 1 of the hoped for 18hp. It would be too big of a loss. Ain't she cute? Troy341

low siding in turn 2 Spokane Race Park

11B40...I don't want to bring this up, as this brings up a tramatic event. But all your riding years were not smooth and trouble free. As you recall, you did have problems that one day, while leading the pack of scooters down the straight stretch at SRP! A little to hot in the turn, to many hard parts on the ground, wheels up...well you can see the results! Hope you learned that some things are not ment to turn!
