I would like to know the answer myself to this question. Some time next week I will be looking for a front for my 650.
Which brings me to another question of what is the difference between the 1000 and 650. Hope I'm not thread jacking.

Are we cranky?

I gotta say it: I enjoyed writing this post up, was like therapy. But when I looked back at the projects section, I realized how well your search was done: if you look about 10 posts below this one, I see a KZ1000 with a swing arm and front fork change! So here we go, and I'm gonna leave the rest of my post up for your enjoyment:

kzrider.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&...w&catid=11&id=253474

When I do any of the work on my bike this way, I honestly do the research myself. I'd say for the length all that you need would be a tape measure.
I believe (no, I know) that all zx6 forks are not the same. the ones in 86 are definitely different that the ones in 06, so Joe might use an 91 and it works fine where as a 92 or 90 might be off. When did they change, and is it off of an in between model (my GPZ is an 84 on the title, but was built in 12/83). Was there a difference? I dunno. Let me start measuring.

Tape measure is the true standard. Check mounting points, 'cause the upper triples that you will need could allow the forks to slide up or down as needed.

The best info I have gotten is to get as complete of a front clip as possible. If you can get forks, triples, brakes, wheels and all, then it is (relatively) plug and play. Might look a little funny and handle really badly when the front tire is wider than the rear :woohoo: but it will work.

And although they try to be helpful, I find that my own research is the best for my bike.

"Well darn it, Joe said this would work!"
"Who is Joe?"
"Ah, some guy on the internet that I never met and never saw his work. But he sure seemed to know alot!"

Think about it. The reference to the archives probably meant the pictures and descriptions.

So are you looking for someone to get mad at when it doesn't work? Your posts incline me (and probably others) to believe that you will probably be furious at this one, because it does not say:

The most popular swap for a KZ1000 is _______.

I can tell you the most popular swap for 750GPZ's seems to be early GSXR parts.

But give me a few minutes with a tape measure to find out.

84 GPZ750. Modded with stock Kawasaki parts: ZR-7 shock, ZX-6 coils, GPZ1100 throttle, EN454 brake, GPZ900 fuse box, etc. and non stock: Ken Sears mirrors, K&N filter, Pirelli Sport Demons.

Here are a few more that I dug out: took me a minute, but I enjoyed reviewing everything:

kzrider.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&...ew&catid=5&id=236911

I forgot to mention the wheel diameter change, so it is good that I looked.

I could look more later, I guess, if you need me too.

The fork lengths of the zx is ~ the same length.
The difference in the bike height though is 17" tires compared to the 18" rear and 19" front of the original KZ setup...

I have ZX636 front end and zx6R on the rear... Seems tall enough for me and this with a Kerker on it... Now granted, I don't want nor do I plan hauling ass over a speed bump....

NOTE: I shortened the kick stand so the image is deceiving due to leaning towards the left side of the bike....

follow the link for the front end conversion in my project, maybe it will help your decision....

OMR: Looking att your absolutely great looking bike now I´d bet that you´re gonna have some issues on ground clearance. When you sit on your bike it´ll drop 1-2" front and rear and in that pic it seems that you don´t have too much to start with. Think about leaning on a nice curve....that header is gonna get awfully close to hitting....

Before getting too concerned here... In looking at the picture you'll see where the header and muffler are only loosely fit on for the picture. Meaning that pipe is hanging 1" or 2" lower than completed installation.

Not to mention that I cut off the kickstand ~ 2" for a good lean to the left side... Didn't want this baby falling over...

At the time of this photo, I needed to have the exhaust in place to get an idea of what was required for the muffler support strap fab. So in installing all the puzzle pieces on for a better idea of how it would look etc...

Zx636 Specs:
Front suspension 41mm inverted cartridge fork with TiSiCN coating on inner fork tube, rebound and compression damping, plus spring preload adjustability and topout springs...

ZX6R Specs:
Rear suspension Bottom-link UNI-TRAK® with gas-charged shock, stepless compression and rebound damping, spring preload adjustability and top-out spring...

With all these at my disposal and with my 170lb weight, shouldn't be an issue. I can also raise the front end an inch or two by loosening the fork clamps and lowering the fork tubes... I was looking for a low profile...short legs you know....

In review of the attached 2004 ZX6R image, I drew the horizontal lines of the lower cowling... basically at the bottom of the brake disc....

As the bike sits now, without full adjustments made yet it sits ~ 1" lower than this image...

Also, note Calhons first image... his lower header sits ~ the same height as the top of the rim... Truly not much difference when you think about it...

while i personaly have 0 exp on this topic i am reading it with great interest as i may buy a ratty z sometime to do a full conversion like our friends here have...still wheighing wether i am gonna want one...OMR's bike makes me think of the options and how clean the bikes lines can stay...the german conversions look nice but too funky for this boy.....i was trying to help as in ....bright curtianbs would help.....peace....and thanks for this thread ...it got some nice shots of omr's bike posted...and never fear kerkers allways seem to make the prettiest colors of sparks fly anyhow.....i used mine to back off tailgaters,,lol
