GrantL buys a KZ 750 L project bike. was created by Grantl
Hi everyone,
this weekend I picked up a KZ 750 project bike from a very nice couple who live about 65 miles away in Ojai. The bike is variously semi-gloss or flat black depending on where you stand or at what angle you're looking--kind of Mad Max Looking. The rims are standard Kawasaki mags painted GPZ red. It runs okay, it's rough below 3,000 rpms, then the power kicks in almost to redline. It has what appears to be an older version of a Kerker exhaust. I think the exhaust will clean up really nice if I ceramic paint it. Can you or should you consider some sort of powdercoating for an exhaust? Or do they get too hot?
The bike has about 40.000 miles on the odo, and some of the electrics don't work. The gauge cluster is whack, the tach works well but the speedo jumps like crazy. The left turn signals work but the right ones don't--maybe wiring or bulbs, headlight works but no highbeam. Eventually I'll get to looking at it. The brakes work well but the rotors look worn so will probably need replaced. It has a small flycatcher fairing that makes the bike look more modern than it is.
Like I said, this is a project that my adult son and I will work on together. It has a lot of potential, and I think he will look really cool riding with us on some of the KZR group rides we have planned for this summer.
Sorry no pics yet. I took some but my computer at home is suffering a virus attack that my antivirus software doesn't seem to be able to catch.

Right on!... good to hear another KZ getting worked on. Sounds like a great way to spend time with your son... wrenching & riding. Happy KZ-ing, Doug :)

I love the KZ750L model. In fact, I have a near mint OEM tank in the original black w/orange and red stripes that I am using on my project bike. I decided to build the KZ750H cafe/bob/streatfighter bike around the KZ750L tank, since I could never find a KZ750L project bike to put in on.

I am going to try to attach pictures from a brochure that show off this model -- hope they work!

This is what I do for fun, not for work. It is art, with a little engineering thrown in.
