Thanks!!! I ended up flipping and cutting down the U shaped washer thingie that was on the ignition switch in order to snug the body up to the bucket on the inside, leaving just enough threaded height to put the spin nut on and secure it to the bucket. I'm fairly proud of how that came out. The oil light was easy, just had to drill a 5/16" hole and pop it in. Stay tuned for more pics tonight!

Got quite a bit done tonight. Gauges are now mounted and wired up, new shocks are installed, and I figured out that I have an air leak at the mating surfaces between the intake boots and the head (trials and tribulations of mounting Suzi boots on a Kawi head I guess), maybe just need a little thicker coat of silicone between them.
Finally opened a photobucket account so I don't have to post one pic per link here anymore...so, here's some links to the photobucket pics.

I ordered the shocks from www.mikesxs.com . They are marketed as yamaha xs650 shocks but they bolt up perfectly to the kz650. They are progressive wound springs and were really pretty cheap ($79). He has piggy back shocks available for $169 as well, I really thought about getting those but decided to use the extra $90 to get the mini gauges (which are also a direct swap to kz gauges if anyone else is wanting to go that route, and at $39 a pop they are easy on the wallet too).
Haven't gotten a chance to ride on the shocks yet, but sitting on the bike it feels a lot better, a little more stiff and not as bouncy as the stock shocks.

Got a phone call and an email from my painter this evening. He just finished spraying the final coat of clear and tomorrow night I'll be going to pick up my tins.
Got one pic of each piece from him in email, feel like a kid the night before Christmas now!!!
I'd asked for the spade to be ghosted onto each side and he put it on the top of the tank, but after seeing it I really don't mind!!! I'm so excited to see this bike all mocked up tomorrow. More pics to come tomorrow about 10:30 pm Central. :)

www.mikesxs.com . They, like the shocks, are sold for Yamaha xs650s, but they are a direct swap in for the stock kawasaki gauges. I mounted them with the eye mount attached to the gauge to the bottom side of the stock instrument cluster mount, with flat washers large enough to just cover those mounts on top and bottom, lock washer and acorn nut on the top side. Fit perfectly for what I wanted them for and left enough room to get the key into switch in teh bucket (had to turn the gauges a little away from center but I can deal with that). They come in white or black faces and several different styles. The ones I got were $39 each.
