I wish I could have bought it too. Hearing what a dummy the buyer was bums me out even more. I sure thought the finial price would have been way higher too, that was a killer Kaw. I sure hope it survived the ride home. I'd love to paint this one too.

You never know, Mark, you may get a shot at this one, too. Harvey Diddleson had a new Night Rod on display at our local grocery store. That satin black on gloss black paint is pretty impressive in person.

I wonder........... BBQ grill paint and gloss black accents....... :P

I've only ever known of 2 people trying to start a BBQ grill using Gin. Both were on the same day. Both were in the process of becoming engineers. At least one of them, while not a rocket scientist, is a now nuclear engineer. That's pretty close in my book.:P

Anyway......... here are some updates on the project.

I grabbed an old disc brake wheel from the junk pile behind my shop and set out to clean it up a bit.

I still need to hit a couple small spots but it's just about ready for clear coat.

The "chopping" has begun. I got the bottom frame rails sitting level but still have to finish moving the top anchor point on the down tubes. It looks like the down tubes will end up with about a 3 or 4 inch stretch. Old timers will remember that this 440 has the front forks from a KZ750 LTD-4 wich are about 3 inches over the length of the original 440 front end.

The pre-bent steel arrived for the hardtail. It was a lot cheaper than buying a good tubing bender. The sprocket for the new rear wheel is here too.

No, the 2x4's are not a redneck frame jig. I just wanted to hold the frame neck at a particular height. The engine will come out before final welding of the frame. I wanted to leave it in to hold certain things in place, for now.

I had hoped to use the stock gas tank but I don't think it will work out after all the frame mods are done.

Ok,
1. Gin is a perfectly good lighter fluid substitute.
2. The bike looks great and I'll be home to work on it soon.

Guess I've been away too long when I find my project on page 13. After a long absence I finally got back into the shop and started moving/removing some metal on the 440. The top half of the frame is completely gone now. Just cleaning up the sections I'll reuse. Thanks to the sawsall, the bandsaw and an air chisel, things are coming apart nicely.

I'll post some more pics as she starts to come back together.
