I bought the attached bike as a project believing it to be a genuine z900. I have checked the frame no. Z1F-116180 which is definitely a 1976 A4. The engine number however is KZT 00AE064163 which I reckon is from a 1978 Z100, the whole bike is in pretty poor condition (shite) and would need a lot of cash spent on it to make it look decent- the picture does it a favour. Is it worth doing a decent restoration or would I be better off just making it into a half decent runaround or bobber.
Tommo

There is a better picture in my gallery- I don't know how to add another picture to this message.

The worth would be a personal thing. Restoring it to pristine concours shape may not be worth it unless you have the time and willing to pay the price for top of the line parts, but I wouldn't hesitate to make it into a daily rider. That version could amount to whatever you can afford to make it look like in your own personal style. That's what most of us do here. Take a bike and transform it into "our" bike in the look we like. I'd say to go for it. Take a good long look at it to decide what direction you want to go and then start taking it apart and freshening up what needs it and add your own personal touches to it. When you are done, you will have a bike with your touches on it and it will be "yours"! You will have the personal satisfaction of doing it yourself and having a "one of a kind" bike. Enjoy the ride!

Thanks racer54, I think that is a decent idea as the 1976 brown colour is pretty digusting and the green is not my favourite colour either- personal opinions only.
I did see the attached Z900 for sale on Ebay Deutschland a while ago and I think it it looks pretty cool, so maybe I will go for something like that.

Options are almost limitless on these bikes. Whatever you can imagine, you can probably do. These bikes are a great base to start with. Look around here in the photo section, also look up "streetfighters" here and on Google. There are many. many ideas out there. I have seen some amazing examples of what some guys have done. Some look like they just put Z1/KZ bodywork on a different bike! I prefer a pro-street look but have seen variations that simply amaze.

Oh yes! Make a daily driver out of it; that way you'll have a bike that you want to ride...not trailer from show to show :(

And if you do your bike like the one in the picture (nice!) make sure to post up how you did the spoked wheels ... I've got some ideas for a project that includes an inverted front end and 17" (must be 17s!) spoked wheels with dual discs on the front, just like that one...yum!

That Blue Z is absolutely beautiful. Nice model for your project.
