I recently have been restoring a 1978 Z1R, of course this involves searching the internet for parts.....well in my search I found a 1981 KZ1000 J completely stock. I could not pass this down so I will add it to my kawi herd.

Green.

Actually I put a 'glimpse' of it on a post regarding rear-sets. It's one of my numerous projects (insert the emoticon for "embarassed"). I've got a ZX7R front end on it with 9R forks (2 and 3/4 inches longer than the 7s), teflon lines, Graves clip-ons and rear-sets, 36mm Mikunis (waaaaay too much carb...at this point ;) ), a 5" ZX6R rear wheel, ZX7R fuel cap welded onto the 'J' tank.

Need to: install the single-shock rear swingarm, mount the 916 fiberglass tail and color match it, plumb the exhaust, re-install the 'J' headlight (it had gone the route of "ELR clone-ish-ness" but now I have a way better version of a clone so this one can have it's own purpose), 3/8" off-set front sprocket that might get up-graded to a full-on outboard bearing support kit in about (checking eBay at the moment) 15 minutes...we'll see.

Anyway, sorry about the long response, but I painted it ELR-ish and installed K&N superbike bend bars, a Trapp, filters, and a jet kit and I used to ride the thing all the time. Then I went nuts on it and I haven't finished the project and I'm a little disappointed in myself at the moment...so, seeing yours reminds me how much I used to LOVE riding the ol' girl. 35,000 miles on her right now and still screamin' right along...IF I'd get her done.

Anyhow, your bike is a true cherry and getting rarer (is that a word? )...ride it man, I sure would!

"Diamond Wine Red" that I am not sure of.......I am going to start searching the internet today for paint codes. The sun has faded the top of the tank and I would like to paint it before the weekend.

Well I made some room in my garage for the new bike addition. I have not taken it for its maiden ride yet, I should have it plated by mid week. Other then the faded paint it seems fine. I was amazed by how quite and smooth the engine runs...thats always a bonus!
I will post some pics as soon as I can

I know how you guys like pics......here is a pic of the faded paint on the tank. I couldn't decide if I was going to wait till winter to paint the bike but I just can't look down and see this mess everyday....so I will paint it this weekend.B)

So, I figure if I paint the bike tonight I can buff it on Saturday afternoon and be riding by tomorrow evening. I started with a black base coat...

Then came four coats of HOK brandy wine candy
