I couldn't stay away. Lets call this my mid-life crisis at 25. You may remember my other project cafe 650

davoarts.googlepages.com/100_0096.jpg/100_0096-full.jpg

Well, after I finished it I started running into some engine troubles so I sold it to someone who had the spare engine and the time to take care of it while I took the proceeds and bought a sailboat.

I love the sailboat, it's a blast, but I still had this empty feeling (so did my garage) which has now been filled again by chance of finding another 650 on craigslist.

It is a 1978 B model I'm pretty sure, 21,000 miles on the ticker but it has had a lot of motor work done to keep it in good shape and all it really needs is a good cleaning. It has a clear title and up to date tag and newer tires and could use a good set of side covers though. Everything else is there and we started it up and it purrs like a kitten. I don't know what work I want to do with it, I really want it to look like my last bike but this one is in such good shape I would feel bad customizing it since it could be brought back to original condition rather easily.

Anyways, here is a pic I got from the craigslist ad, I seem to have misplaced my digital camera so I can't get closer pics right now.

I got this bike, an extra tank, some oil and filter for $700 which is not bad considering the new tires, title, and tag, the general condition, and the fact that it is riding season and the fever has set in. The blue bike in the background was also for sale, and believe me, I thought about bringing them both home with me, but he was asking a little more for the blue one.

Looks like z1enterprises will be hearing from me again in a few weeks :) :)

Congrats!!! Looks like a really nice bike. I don't think I'll ever part with my 650. Your last project turned out great, good luck with this one.

I did a little bit of work this weekend, drained the old fuel, stripped her down and painted the body parts with black primer for now, ditched the rear fender and stock bars, threw on some clubmans, and did a little bit of shine work. I could have torn the entire bike down and totally started from the beginning with cleaning, painting, and shining everything all up, but I figured I'd get it rideable for the rest of the season and tear it all down this winter for the real deal. All I want now is to be on the road again.

The clubmans and plate bracket and tail light didn't take long at all since I did it all before.

I took a rear shot (the best view in my book) and ran it through pshop and it turned out awesome!

I do plan on ditching the gauges and getting smaller signal lamps, but I suppose they'll stay on for the duration of the riding season. I think this will end up looking like Davocycle #1 with spoke wheels (I like them better) and some better looks.

No Fuss, No Muss!

I like your philosphy for getting your ride on the road quickly. Much like a cologne shower, and a fresh shirt so you can make it to the local bar before last call.

Ride safe, have fun. Look forward to the winter tear down.

Here is a close up of the engine and fork I started shining up using only the $4 wire wheel that you can put in you power drill. It only took a few minutes an I haven't been around to the finer sandpapers to get the shine, but wow you can tell the difference where I got it with the wheel.

I painted i black, then I painted it silver. It didn't look quite right in person, but the pics in retrospect look super. I then painted it a textured grey stone which looks totally awesome in person but the pics not so good yet. Anyways, after some more cleaning, polishing, and messing around here is where I am at for today. It is getting there. I toyed around with the idea of ditching the gauges, turn signals, relocating the ignition switch, and other stuff, and then I thought about waiting until winter, but heck, I love working on the bike almost more than I like riding it, so who knows.

Rock on
