'82 750 CSR/ '78 750 twin paint/makeover

I love the silver stripes on the top of the tank - it's a shame you can't see them from the side, too! A nice pinstripe would look good on the side of the tank also since you've got the whole black/silver thing going on with the rest of the bike as it is.

Thanks guys, not too bad for my first try. The tanks not perfect, but for a rattle can first try, I will take it. I am my worst critic though. You always see your own little mistakes more then others I guess.

As for the other bike, its been on the shelf for the past few weeks. I am really waiting to have some time to work on it, and make it really nice.
I still need to do some frame work, cleaning, ect.
I have more machining on the rear sets, and other various goodies. I am a novice machinist, so it takes me forever!
I also have some money to spend on a digital tach, powdercoat, seat covering, HLVP gun, paint. So I am looking at it as a winter project. Thats why I got this one and decided to get it running nice. Then I am going to sell it to a friend after I get my baby done. This way I can spend the time to finish it right, and not cut corners to just "git er done" he he

But thanks for all the support, I will keep posting pics as I get the rest done.

Ok ok, I will have more tomorrow. I was able to clean and prime the engine covers today. I also started cleaning up the hand controls and the bases to the clutch and brake levers. Then soon I can tackle the wiring! Yeah!

Well here are some new pics.
I have made some good progress. Been pretty busy so I haven't had a ton of time to work. I finally had a free Saturday. So I was able to spend a good 4 hours working on the bike today. I got the engine all bolted down and ready to go. I think I might pull the covers off and media blast them and clear coat them All blacked out is a little too much, and I dont like the polished look. So if I had that dull finish with a clear over it, it would look sweet.
Anway, I know everything is dirty, and the engine and tank need a lot of cleaning and polishing yet. But I tried to tackle the wiring nightmare! I got that pretty straight now. I also finished mounting the rear sets. I needed them farther back I am just too tall to have them up in the stock locations like some people do. Hopefully I can get the shift linkage, and rear brake light switch mount fabbed up tomorrow.

My thoughts (even though you didn't "axe" for 'em): I like the black motor! Some things that help the black/silver combo is to eliminate the chrome. (just my thoughts here, but:whistle: ...) the rear shocks and the chrome on the rims throw your silver off a bit. If they were 'black' (or your very cool 'silver' frame paint) they'd be "in theme" and wouldn't distract from the visual flow. I'm a fan of 'black', so I'd go for black rims and hubs (done on somebody's KZ650 around here somewhere...and they came off cool!) and really enhanced the bikes looks; different shocks would be the solution for the back.

Don't take my thoughts as anything other than compliments; b/c that's what they are! This is super work! No short cuts, you're definately making no excuses. Great job! I'm a fan of your work. Please keep my addiction fed with pics!

I second the opinion about the chrome. It does seem to throw off the silver.

It's too bad that the more good work you do, the more it wants more good work.

I completely agree with both of you. I do plan on doing that.
As far as the wheels are concerned, the chrome is in such good shape that it would be a shame to sand it off. So I am currently looking for a set of Mag wheels that I can paint black. It will give it a sportier look too. I have to do some research to find out what mag wheels I can use that have a rear disc setup. (If anyone has any they want to sell/trade, let me know!)
With the shocks, I have another set that I am going to experiment with. I am going to try to pull them apart and sand down the the chrome on the assembly. Then paint it black. For the springs I was thinking of getting some of that black rubberized dip. It would be flexible and hopefully would cover well. I know they sell that stuff for rubberizing the handles of tools and such.
But thanks for your kind words, I do agree with you guys totally. I love to hear other peoples ideas and comments. It just gives me more ideas!

Hey Jornum1, I really like what you've done so far, looks good. Thought I'd throw in my 2 cents about the black rubberized dip. I tried plasti-dip on a set of forks and the stuff chips (peels) pretty easy and is not good if you get fork oil on it. I decided to just strip and polish the forks. Not sure if it would hold up any better on rear shocks though. I do have a front mag wheel off a 79 kz750 twin, single disc, in good shape (rear wheel is bent)if your interested pm me.

Yeah, I've used the "plasti-coat" stuff too, it's just like liquid rubber. Comes right off. Really sucks. I have used this spray paint (cheap stuff from Home Depot or Lowes) that is supposed to stick to plastic (it does); a friend said that he uses that stuff on shock springs b/c it flexes...could be an inexpensive solution. ?

Let us all know what you come up with...you're pretty inventive!
