74 Z1900

Hello all,
On this very cold and wintry morning in west Mich. I thought i would take some pics of my latest purchase. It's a 74 z1 with 22k on it.

First the bad:
Not original paint.
All the chrome is rough.
The rear wheel is not orignal.

The good(not much):
Everything is intact except for one mirror and centerstand.
Original tank which is uncoated and should clean up OK.
Saddle is in real good shape!
Stock exhaust, has pitting in the chrome but are solid!!
The VIN's are within 200 of each other

The funny part of the story is where i bought it. When i was in High school i worked at a dealer in town here for 3 years. The dealer took this bike in trade in 1980 :woohoo: That was 5 years before i started working there. One of the mechanics painted the bike red and put a new seat on it. I started at the dealer in 1985. For a couple of the 3 years of my employemnt it was my job to get this bike ready to sell in the spring. Well, they must have been asking too much and it never sold. After i left they never got it out again:blink: So 20 years later they still have it sitting indoors but covered with a ton of dust and dirt. I always thought the bike was something i would like to have so i bought it. Once i found KZR i was hooked and knew i had to have it!!

I don't know near as much about these bikes as some of you guys do so any ideas or help is appreciated.

It needs a lot of rechroming done. If the chrome is pitted prior to rechroming does that show up after it is rechromed? Can the pipes be rechromed? They are solid with no dents.

I also would like to paint the body parts to the original color. I am not looking for exact but orignal looking. Can i get paint code numbers that are fairly close to the original?

i won't be starting any time soon either because i need to fininsh my KZ550 first.

pictures we need pictures!you realize once you get hooked on z1s its a slippery slope next thing you know youll be spending all your time on here and ebay and traveling the countryside on a quest for more z1 stuff!it starts out innocently enough carbs,tires and stuff like that then itll be turbos and bigblocks and swingarms and basket case bikes ................ then before ya know it youve been amassing parts for 20 plus years and you have to change your name to something catchy like wireman(TM)oh wait thats me get your own catchy name! anyway get more pictures up here fast!!!!!!!!

yeah that poor bike needs some help,ill be over shortly to take it off your hands and save you from becoming a compulsive z collector!dont thank me ,we're all in this together! looks pretty complete thoughB)
