getting my kz 400 back on the road was created by oldkaws4ever
i was out in my garage today and started fiddling around with my 1976 kz 400. It's all origanal with a little over 10,000 miles. it was my first street bike and daily rider for 2 years, then i put it away cause i got a 77 kz 650b, another story for another time. the 650 got a short in the starter button, so i put back together my 74 z1 900 seen in the gallery, and have been riding it for about 6 months. but ive got a bug up my butt to put the old 400 back on the road. everything is there but i wanna/need to replace somethings. the 1st thing that im gonna replace is the exhaust, because it is rusting and the previous owner didnt like that it was so quiet, so he cut off the rear of the muffler behind the rear footpeg. I orderd a complete 2 into 2 system from dennis kirk(265.99). The rear brake seems to be stuck, so im going to pull the rear wheel and take it all apart and see if i can free it up. Im also going to clean the tank and carbs, and replace the plugs and change oil/filter. i have the battery on trikkle charge so im going to try and start it tommorow. It just needs a really good cleaning and a nice long ride to clear out all the bugs in it. just wanna clean it up so i can ride it and show it off at the car and bike shows, that are starting up soon.

Sounds like you're on top of everything.... so I'll just say, go get em!

Oh, and I know it goes without saying, that fuel will probably be gummed up in your carb bowls and floats...

400s rock...

got alot done to her since my last post, i painted the chain gaurd, did the SOS pad treatment to the motor and she is so clean, got the rear brake freed up, put the pipes on her. I was just going to clean the carbs but decided to get the carb rebuild kits from dennis kirk, she runs real good. Now im in a bind because the petcock is shot so im waiting on a solution for it. I'll try to get some pics real soon, to keep y'all satisfied because i know y'all like pictures

I posted on your other thread, but I'm curious - how is your petcock "shot"? Is it damaged? How is it damaged?
