Here are a couple of progress pics of my Z1A-based streetfighter. I'm getting sooooooooooo close! For the guys that are relatively new to this forum, here are the details so far.
1974 Z1A frame powdercoated a smoky chrome color. A complete front end from a ZX11C, with an upper clamp that I scored a couple years ago from Lockhart-Phillips ebay store (lpusa). It allows the use of standard 7/8" handlebars.
Swingarm is from a GS1100E, with rear wheel from an early air-cooled GSXR1100, as well as the rear brake system.
I'm STILL waiting for my piggyback shocks from WilbersUSA. I don't think the "monoshock" set-up in the pics will suffice. :laugh:
The engine consists of a new, standard-bore KZ1000 cylinder with Wiseco 10.25:1 pistons and a set of Kenny Harmon street cams. I still have to buy a new exhaust system.
I also have a complete Dyna S ignition system and a new wiring harness. I still haven't made up mu mind if I'm going to use rearsets or pods. Carbs are Mikuni 28mm with accelerator pump.
My stainless steel brake lines should be here by week's end. I'm sure ther's more to tell but I'm about to call it a night.

Did you figure out your spacing issue with the rear wheel? Looks like you did. Keep up updated.

Thanks to you Doug! I appreciate it man. It looks like that 1998 gsxr1100 wheel will work!
Later today I'll get the engine back in the frame, then I'll be able to get the wheel/chain alighnment issues figured out.
I'm also going to ordering new tires for her today as well. I think I'm going with Avon Azeros. 120/70/zr17 front and 160/60/zr17 for the rear. I have the same combo on my ZR-7 and absolutely love them.

You said you have a 98 Gixxer 1100 rim? Aren't those 5.5" wide? If so you're going to need a 180 tire. Let me know on the chain alignment, as I haven't gotten that far into my build yet. I do know I'll need a 5/8" offset front sprocket but haven't figured out if I need to shave the rear sprocket carrier down yet.

Well, you've got me wondering now. I bought it as a 1998/1100 wheel, but the rim definitely states it is 4.5. Kinda strange rim too. The info that is usually on one of the spokes of most rims is stamped on the lip of this one.:unsure:

The older rims do have the info on the lip. The watercooled Gsxr750/1100 had straight spoke rims after 94-95ish. From what I've researched for you have a rim from a 88-89 Gsxr750 or a 89-90 Gsxr1100. Those year ranges are the only one's with the 4.5x17 rear rims and the curved spokes. The years leading up to 94-95 has the same curved spokes but were 5.5x17". I thought you may have had a Katana 600/750 rim but those are 3.5x17.

At least you know what sprocket to buy now. :laugh: Sorry about the bad news by the way. But you may have a better chance of the sprocket carrier lining up with a 5/8" offset front sprocket.
