HI! I'm Nicole, I'm 27, I live in the Washington DC Metro area and I'm new.... I never rode before I decided to buy my bike. I found my KZ 440 LTD on Craigslist and I was smitten. I thought it was in great shape, and it had a funky vintage look that I liked a lot. It was hot!
It ran great but it had a problem with the left turn signal (wouldn't blink), the gas tank had a bubble under the paint, it was missing a few of the emblems, and the guy who sold it to me got melted shoe rubber on the left pipe, aside from those minor aesthetic issues it was awesome! I rode it around the yard a few times to get a feel for the clutch, as I had never driven a manual transmission before. It took all of ten minutes before I was off and running, and loving every minute of it!! It's not running now, somthing happened and the wire that goes to all of the lights burnt up (might have explained the strange left singal problem) so I have to replace the wiring harness, I figured I might as well fix it up while I'm at it. Get the tank painted, put on new emblems and clean it up a bit. Here's a picture of it as it is now. I'm hoping to spend this autumn and winter fixing it up so it'll be ready to roll come summer. Maybe I'll see some of you around. Take care!

It's in pretty good shape, as far as I can tell, but you never know... I'll keep you in mind. Thanks :)

Welcome Nicole.
That is a nice looking 440 LTD.
Get yourself a manual and go over the electrical system. You can probablly fix the wiring problem without needing to replace the whole harness. Check and clean all the connectors and put a dab of dielectric greese on them. It could have been a bad connection somewhere that got fried.
You will need to find the problem area and replace the wire/s that got fried. If you can find a cheap harness on ebay, that may help, but you just might end up with another incomplete harness. I have found, having a second harness, that you can use some of the wires and connectors to repair your original one. Just make sure to solder any wire connection/splices and use shrink wrap over them.
Keep us posted on your progress.

Have fun!
;)

Welcome to the asylum, nice bike.
The guy that sold that to you should learn how to use the foot pegs instead of the exhaust!

Welcome Nicole...there are many 400/440 owners on this site so don't hesitate to ask questions...and a number of top-rate people with much expertise in all aspects of motorcycle maintenance. There is also a whole bunch of silliness and it is generally good-natured. Keep us posted (and pictures too!) on your progress.:)
