need help identifying was created by kainh
Hi everyone,

I am a new owner of a 1979 KZ650. I was trying to determine the exact model of it. From what I have read on this forum, there are B1, B2 and B3. At first I thought I had a B3 model, due to production year, but my frame number and VIN don't seem to match. I am pretty sure that the PO didn't do any engine swaps, so I thought that the experts here would know exact specifics. any help, greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Kai

sorry about that, the VIN on the frame is KZ650B529261. I don't have the number from the engine on hand. I am new to this type of bike so I am not sure what other information is pertinent.

Try that site and follow the links at the end of the site to other 650 sites. The information there suggests that you have a KZ650B2 model...using your frame VIN, the '5' after the KZ650B merely tells us it was assembled in Lincoln, Nebraska... so the unit number is actually 29261, which appears to fall in the B2 range. :)

Welcome.

Frame and VIN number (on ownership) should match, but engine and frame #s don't match.
