Hi, I bought a 1982 kz750 Ltd H3. The clutch cable was FUBAR and despite YouTube videos and the shop manual neither the replacement cable or the shorter gpz 750 cable with allow me to tighten up the cable and allow me to shift. I did put grease in the worm gear as it was dry but it should be working. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the asylum!
Did the clutch operate at all with the old cable?

Could the helix be indexed incorrectly?  Sounds like you need to move it back, which uses more cable.  The arm should be at roughly 90 degrees to the cable pull angle.

Howdy. Do you have the owner's manual or service manual for the motorcycle?
If not, there's a 1980-85 FSM floating around the internet and it may be linked here in the filebase. Yellow/gold cover w color wiring diagrams.

Clutch adjustment.  What direction are you turning the clutch release screw?  You'll need to use the procedure in the 82 supplement section of the FSM. It's different from the directions in the main body of the manual for the 1980 models.  It should be Counterclockwise first until hard to turn, then clockwise 1/4 turn. It's kind of backwards.  This is how it's done on my 1981 KZ650-CSR.
