I have this 76 KZ900 in my garage that I am tinkering on with a friend. I am no stranger to restoring old bikes but this is my first Kawasaki. I am sure to have tons of questions and would value everyone's input!  Should be a fun journey so off we go!

I have the carbs off and they will require a deep clean. I have an ultrasonic tank to clean stuff. I usually just use a simple green dilution. What do you recommend I use as a solution?

The bowls are stuck and I cant get them off. Any suggestions before I get the BFH?

Who makes a decent carb rebuild kit?

I did not see a manual for the 900 under your manual section. Can I follow the 1000 manual to some degree? Were the carbs the same?

Your newest KZ900 enthusiast,
 -motoaddict ( Jason )

Welcome.

No manual has been digitized yet. You can find them on evilbay. Look for the 6th revision. Date March 1977

Keyster is the best, but “kits” are not always the best choice. You can get gaskets and O-Rings cheaper then kits. A kit only makes sense if you need brass, aka jet, float needles/seats.

I just use Berrymans carb dip.

Welcome Jason.
You can use dish soap, Simply Green or other cleaners in an ultrasonic cleaner.
Heating up the solution with the machine if possible helps.

Some penetrating oil, and an impact driver for stubborn screws.
JIS screw drivers and bits recommended for the screws on these KZs.

Last set of carbs I cleaned I used some solution my buddy had.
Worked really well:

Hello and welcome. Yor pics didn´t show´n up here,(need Google account).
For the carb clean i used a automotive carb dip like ERC carb cleaner (50/50 fuel mix) and re-useable. Brass parts comes out of the bath like new.
Ultra sonic cleaning is not the ultimate weapon to clean carb parts, some chem tech is more powerful like the classic Yamaha carb dip...., just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the replies guys!

As far as the photos go, they show up in the thread when I login as normal. One thing I did notice is that they show up just fine on the laptop but not when I log in on the phone. I am using a google account and getting the link directly from google photos by right clicking and selecting "copy link address". Is there another way to do this???

Thanks and once I have this sorted out I will started to post progress photos. Much has happened since I started.
