Where, or how, to start? was created by digban
Hi, folks!

After thinking for many years that acquiring a project would be a good way to pass the time, I bought the cheapest thing that appealed to me on Salt Lake City's Craigslist equivalent: a 1974 KZ400. Living in a place with a functional garage for the first time in my adult life, I thought "why not fill it up with tools, parts, and lots of cursing? " I'm not sure I have a clear answer yet, but, it's been fun. Do I know what I'm doing? Absolutely not. Do I have plenty of time? You bet.

I've got plenty of questions (the thing came with VM 30s on it, which don't seem tremendously happy), but I'll post those elsewhere. Apologies in advance for naivete, but, I hope to of some use some day!

Howdy. You may have already found the site, but KZ400.com has manuals, wiring diagrams & lots of info.
However, beware of the forums there as they may not be safe for your computer.
I've never ventured into them, so this is just what others said & that was from several years ago.

Hey howdy hey,

Glad to see another Utard here—I picked up my KZ off KSL last fall! I'm only in SLC part of the time, since I work down in Mount Pleasant (100 miles South), but if you need another pair of hands, an odd tool, or whatever, let me know and I may or may not be able to assist.

Is this thing working? Is this thing on?

Welcome to the madness. The KZ400s are great bikes.
eBay is a great source for used parts and Partzilla for new. Save the KZ400 parts list page on Partzilla for your model to your Favorites now as you'll be referencing it often.

Thanks for the welcome, everyone! Not sure if adding "@" is going to work the way I want it to, but, oh well.

@martin_csr those forums appear to have gone by the wayside in recent years; seems like a lot of valuable information has disappeared (I wonder if internet archive would still have them searchable...) but the rest of the site is super useful. Thanks!

@TexasKZ that document is great--thank you! Thumbing through the Clymer manual isn't my idea of a great time.

@Buzz Nichols funny enough, I picked up the bike in Nephi. Also, while I will gladly accept an offer of help (which I'll try not to abuse), this is at least partly an excuse to buy tools. I may be in contact soon...thanks!

@ThatGPzGuy I've been poking around in both places; still somewhat shocked to see some NOS on eBay.
