Hello. I am a new member and hoping to learn about restoring my 1982 KZ1000J model. I have owned it since 1987 in Calif. and moved to Wisconsin in 2004.
It has been sitting in my shed since about 2005. Needs an engine rebuild and a bunch of other items restored. Weather here just ravaged my calipers, forks, etc.
Looking for advice on finding a decent shop to start the engine rebuild. Most other issues I intend to do myself. Looking forward to any help or advice.

Have a 82 1100 for a while , fixing the stator atm. Can help a little, but this is a good site with lots of knowledge. I’m also working on a 81 1000 Ltd. took off the head cause some idiot snapped off a couple cam cap m6’s. Has Wisco pistons 1075-10.25-1 Sleeved cylinders Valves and pistons Were kinda dirty don’t know the past , bought it from a widow. I’m debating on pulling the jugs and ringing and honing it. Have spare set of rings. Last time I tried to put together my 1100 I could not get the last two pistons in. Also thinking about checking the valves They seem to close good.
