Hi all! I’m getting ready to restore my first bike, an 83 LTD 1100. It’s been sitting for about 22 years at my Dad’s place in CO and it’s really rough. Will be a ground up restore. This will be my first and I’m sure I’ll need some help along the way!

Welcome aboard! Don't even start the project without a Kawasaki Service Manual and JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) screwdrivers. Those screws that look like Phillips are NOT Phillips and using a Phillips screwdriver on them WILL ruin them. If you need more info on JIS just ask. Ed

Welcome! I'm from North Texas, also. Near Denton and have quite a few Kawasakis. Holler if you need any help. As I tell my wife, restoring motorcycles keeps my out of jail....and broke! Also teaches the young ones the proper use of swear words!

Nice rack!

Ground up restore?

Throw that rack away, black bag over the seat cover, change oil, new battery and she'll be good as new!

Other than the side covers, that looks like it is complete, which is a real bonus going in. Do you know if it had any mechanical problems when it went into storage? What is your plan? Presentable stock? A better than new concourse restoration? A radically wild custom? There are many options at this point, but keep in mind that some will require quite a lot more work and money than others.

Having a realistic goal in mind can help keep the project on track and within budget.
