I’m wondering if I could put a ignition system from a 1982 kz1000 into a 1984 ZN1100B... long story...tryna save a couple bucks from buying the Dyna 4000 since the Dyna s 2000 advancer/rotor doesn’t fit my model. I’ve added pictures of the damaged,..all parts of original ignition system(even tried to rig up the old picks ups and cover)

If you replace the damaged ignition housing on your 1984 ZN1100 with the one from the 1982 kz1000 you can install the Dyna 2000.
You may have to change out the seal.
I did this on my 1983 GPZ1100 which has the same ignition system as your 1984 ZN1100.

I got the oem pick up plate , advancer and housing from a 82 kz1000...installed it...charging my battery now...I’ll give an update...but here’s a pic of my unit

I cleaned and lubed it...my advancer from EBay is not like my original...it’s hooked all up...but I’m charging my battery(brand new)

Ok...so I have no spark!!!...could it be my pick up oem unit from a 1982 kz1000 needs a different coil ?....I have no spark from the coils either...put a test light on a few things.....idk...I’m super lost

Your ZN1100B ignition is like the GPZ1100UT (ZX1100A) with two picup and no advancer = Special igniter box.
Earlier KZ1000 ignitions with two picups and advancer need a diffrent ignitor box.

I have both igniters...can’t use original one because I cannot find the original oem ignition cover for my model...so...I have a oem pickup plate, ignition cover, and advancer/igniter....pics are of original cover, igniter, pickups inside original cover, new cover...pickup plate, and igniter I purchased..I have put the new stuff on...I think I might have to set my pickups for spark?....cause right now the engine turns excellent but won’t start and I have no spark from the plug or coil

If you look at the pics i have uploaded the picup positions is diffrent . so you have an diffrent ignition Timing . But you must have a spark anyway. This is he question i can´t answer at the Moment. I can´t see a pic of the earlier ignitor you Need for your current picup.

The older style ignition uses pickups mounted to the timing plate as shown. The older ignitions all can use any of the first Gen igniters... The tall one or the square ones... They work the same.

Most, if not all, later style motors can be retrofitted back to the earlier style ignition with a simple bolt-on or slight mod.
