The tank & side covers are probably the originals & just repainted, but the emblem mounts & holes have been removed & bondo-ed or something.

The 81-83 KZ650-CSR models have a Hy-Vo cam chain w rubber slipper guides, instead of a roller cam chain w idler rollers. When finished with the valve clearance check & you're ready to re-install the valve cover, you have to be wary of the auto tensioner to avoid over-tightening the cam chain. doing so can damage the rubber slipper guides & possibly stretch the cam chain. The tensioner takes up excess slack from removing the valve cover, then when you re-install the cover after doing the job, the cam chain could be too tight.

The CSR has electronic ignition & 3-phase charging system, same as the 750E/H 4-cylinder models. The frame is the same as the 750H Ltd & the CSR shares a number of parts with that model line, including the muffler system. Your 83 is almost identical to the 82 CSR, but the 82 had 48-spoke wire wheels. I have the 81 KZ650-CSR. Partzilla has exploded diagrams & a cross-reference.
