new guy was created by timber
hey, i'm timber fromm wisconsin. i just started working on a 79 kz650d. got it for some work i did for a guy who got it from another who wanted his bike. the onwer said "I have a 1979 kawasaki KZ650 sr i am interested in getting rid of.I got it from a friend, it needed a new tranny.I replaced the tranny,
and put the motor back together and now it barely runs. i had it running, but it was only firing strong on the left 2 cylinders. i replaced all the gaskets but it still leaks oil. I am tired of it sitting in my garage as i cannot get it running any better.
I also have a bin of spare parts from a donor motor including crankshaft, some gears, and a bunch of other stuff."

so i have some work ahead of me an thats why i'm here, to dig up some answers.
thanks in advance.

Pics and more pics, we wanna see!;)

But seriously, It sounds like you have a good foundation to start working with. I would check the plugs and wires, general tuneup stuff to start. Then you have an idea where you stand as far as engine work.
Everyone here is more than willing to give you the help you need to get it running good.

So Welcome to KZR timber, & Good luck with your project :)

Welcome to KZr timber.

Sounds like you have a little bit of work cut out for you.
More than likely the timing/cams were incorrectly set creating the non-running cylinders.
First thing I'd suggest is doing a compression test to find out what you're dealing with.
Or it could be as simple as only one coil being hooked up, and to the incorrect cylinders (#1 and #2 instead of #1 and #3)

Welcome aboard. Where in WI are you? There are quite a few of us in the Milwaukee area.

Go into your profile and put your bikes description and location in there. It helps when you have a question, and forget to mention what type of bike it is, plus if theres someone closeby you may be able to get someone to give a hand with a 12 pack or a wrench

What is that in your avator?
