Not a bad looking project you have there. B)

It's hard to tell from the angle of the pic, but does the left side (generator) engine cover have 3 mounting bolts/screws, and then another 3 screws closer towards the center near the "Kawasaki" name?
If it doesn't have those 3 inner screws, then your bike is a '78 or newer model.
The right side (ignition) cover isn't original either, but IMHO looks a lot better than the plain cover they came with. :)

The front master cylinder is from a 78 or later bike and I can see someone added an electronic ignition from a later model as well.

ID sticker on neck says:
9-77
kz650c-011***

eng #kz650be0584**

yes it has a gpz550 ignition and the points cover is one i picked up on ebay.
Original cover was smooth with "KAWASAKI" (all caps.
Dunno about the master cylinder. its frozen so i'm swapping it. shouldnt it be a round one?

She does run. carbs are gummed up and need rejetting for the pod filters. so it idles rough and bogs badly when you gass it.
i want to make her silver again. someone painted her red or put a faded red tank on it?

Being built in 9/77 would make it a 78 model which would explain the master cylinder. If it were a 77 it would have had the round master cylinder. It is possible to rebuild it but if you end up swapping it make sure you get the 5/8 master cylinder that is designed for use with dual discs.

As for making her silver again check with Reborn650 here he has researched the closest paint code and should still have the number.
