Thanks from new guy in Chicago was created by kzartz
Hi All,
I thought my first post would be somewhere in the technical section, but using the search feature of past posts and archives has answered most of my questions so far making it unnecessary to post anything at all so far. So I'll start with thanking all the folks on here that do such a great job of contributing valuable info for people like myself. I previously owned a KZ1000ST a few years back until the SF cops took it away (tix, no insurance...I was young, dumb and full of...) So now I'm a little older and wiser and recently purchased a 1976 KZ900 ltd (that is somewhat de-ltd'ed) The guy who sold it to me had just taken it out for his first spring ride and laid it down tearing off the whole ignition setup and messing up a couple other minor things. His loss, my gain. Here's my KZ (pic taken before ignition was put back on for those of you paying attention!) I'm in Chicago and plan to start hanging out with some of the vintage riders around here.
Work so far:
-replaced Dyna-S and covers (thanks to posts about timing)
-bled front brakes (thanks again for posts on that)
-replaced L&R handlebar clusters from Z1E (thanks for electrical diagram in the filebase)
-general maintenance (changed plugs, oil, oil filter, gas filters, battery, greased chain...)
-new mirrors from Z1E(after pic was taken)
Hopefully I can contribute to KZR some day soon, but for now I'll mooch off the experts here. Looking forward to my KZR patches!

Congratulations! You're in for one great summer.
By the way, it would be cool to include your bike and location in your signature... just an idea.
Best of success!

Tim,

Nice looking KZ. I live in Morton Grove and ride a 1982 KZ750 twin (like the older bikes). I get out every weekend - away from Chicago. Let me know if you want to ride old bikes sometime.

Here's a photo of my Twin.
