I recently bought a 1976 KZ900. The PO was really gung-ho with powder coating ( black and lime green ). I want to return it to stock. I going to replace the lime green engine covers ( easy enough ) but he also powder coated the Lester wheels lime green. My question is can I remove the coating, paint over it or re-powder coat ? Any thoughts.

Plenty of DIY strippers to remove powdercoat. It's just paint, not pixie dust or anything. Lets see this lime green contraption tho.

I reckon itll depend on how good the powdercoat was put on. You might have a challenge getting it off with stripper,or it may just peel off no problem. If it is too tough,try media blasting.Thatll move pretty much anything.(Find a good place thats not going to blast the bearing areas or the disc bolt threads)
When I tried powdercoating at my local bike shop,I was told that if I didnt get a good covering first time,I could just go over it again and bung it back in the oven. This was with fresh PC so I dont know if it would be the same for older stuff.

I have removed powder coat with heavy duty paint stripper and elbow grease. It's a lot of work.

Sometimes powder coat changes shade when it's put back on the oven. I've noticed that with clear powder coat. I try to limit it to one time in the oven, otherwise it darkens.

Your best bet is to scuff the surface with 220 grit sanding material and just powder coat over what you have. The existing powder is a great primer.

Its always best to start with bare metal but good luck getting it all off.

I'd be concerned with buildup going over powder with more powder. Not sure how nice of a rebuild you're aiming for, but I did a MX bike with 2 coats of urethane and it covered the VIN.
