Hey all,

I am embarking on a streetfighter project that is going to be a combination of a 75' Z1, and an 1988 Zx10B (with the ZX10 parts going on the Z1 Chasis). The front end seems to be a great swap out, but the rear swing arm seems to need to be shaved by a few MM at the Swing arm axle. I will also need to move 4 suspension Tabs, as i plan to go with a standard rear suspension as opposed to a Mono-shock. I am not quite sure what to do with the size difference between the Z-1 Swing arm bolt sizing and the larger ZX10 bolt sizing. Has anyone out there been through this transformation?

I have some questions for someone who knows more than i do.

Thanks!

Bo

Usually on swaps where the new swingarm pivot bolt is larger then the KZ/Z bolt they have a spacer made to slip inside the swingarm to use the stock kz/z bolt.

Just make a spacer to take up the difference with the later model swingarm pivot bolt and the 16 mm Z1/KZ pivot bolt diameter. I had a pal make a spacer on his lathe to take up the 20 mm Suzuki Bandit 1200 swingarm pivot bolt size and this KZ's 16 mm pivot bolt. I also purchased swingarm-to-rear-shock brackets from PMC via Z1enterprises.com and had them welded on to fit Kawasaki ZRX1100/1200 shocks.

here are some top hat style bushings that i machined out for benhurmx's zx636 to kz swingarm conversion.

this seems to be a very effective solution.

BohicaBob, I'm in the process of completing a swingarm swap on my 1994 KZ1000P, from stock to ZX636 swingarm. Do you mind my asking where you got the shock mounts from?

I know Z1enterprises.com sells them but they have been "out of stock" on the shock mounts for quite some time. I have attempted to order some through Ebay and Amazon but, I've gotten 3 sets that are too large for motorcycle applications.

i have welded a few sets of these on some zx arms before.
tracdynamics.com/products/weld-on-shock-towers

here is a set i welded on revboys zx arm.

you will also have to address the caliper shock interference scenario.

here you can see i modified a stock caliper mounting bracket also.

Leon sent me this link when I was going through the same thing.
tracdynamics.com/collections/swingarm-pa...weld-on-shock-towers
and also ebay had them but its gone now.
I ended up having a set made up at one of my local bike shops.Any half decent engineer with a milling machine should be able to knock you up a set.

Good luck

Just ordered a set of shock mounts from Tracdynamics. Thank you ALL for pointing me in the right direction. Almost done with my ZX636 to KZ swingarm swap. Me happy!!!!! Got a nice ZX636 polished swing arm from Ebay, $45.00.....free shipping. Cannot beat that. bought a Calfab swingarm back in the early 80's for my LTD1000. cost me $300.00 for the swingarm back then.

Work in progress.

Question guys, i'm in the process of getting the final details addressed with my swingarm swap out shown above. So, my question is... would it be safe to add a spacer behind the counter shaft sprocket on my KZ1000P to realign it with the rear sprocket or is it better to go with an offset counter shaft sprocket? Looks to me, that adding a spacer behind the counter sprocket would result in correct chain alignment as would an offset counter sprocket. I am shooting to run a 180 rear tire, hope it all fits!!!
Just received my shock mounts from tracdynamics, I need to have them welded on. Getting close to completing ZX636 swingarm swap. Cannot wait to see it all completed and back on the ground.

From what I understand, if you want a 180 tyre youre going to have to either scallop the inside of your frame or run the wheel off center to get the chain run straight and clear. (Please, correct me if Im wrong, people who have done this mod) .
I would be amazed if you can do it with just putting a spacer behind the front sprocket. The wheel would have to be way off center.( Again, correct me if Im wrong)
Whatever you do,keep in mind that the J model engine had a design flaw in that the front sprocket retaining bolt was prone to coming loose.
(A locking plate was offered as an aftermarket fix) so whatever you do,keep an eye on that and stay safe.

(P.S.Is this a hijack? I dont know what the etiquette is but it was started by bogan79,now answering questions from Copbike1000)

Good point! NEVER meant to hijack bogan79. I'd undo what I've posted but do not think that is possible. I will start new thread if I need to further discuss my mods.
