It seems messy always having to remove the springs in order to measure for the correct oil level in the forks.
Once the level is known correct, and springs have been replaced inside the forks, could fashion a dipstick (perhaps with a wood dowel) and mark the level with the springs inside the forks.
Keep the dipstick as a "special" tool for next time, then being able to check/replenish/flush/fill without having to remove the springs to determine the proper level.
I don't know why some models have fork oil levels measured with springs removed, and other models have fork oil levels measured with springs left inside the forks.
Perhaps having to remove the springs encourages measurement of the fork spring free length to assure being within service limits.
Good Fortune!

When draining the fork oil, it's common to remove the drain screws and pump the forks. Which has the potential to squirt gungy old oil across the garage. :pinch:
While there may a better way to do it, I loosely wrap a towel or shop rag around the fork and drain hole, so when pumped, the old oil shoots into the rag.
Good Fortune!

Be aware that when the fork caps are removed, the bike's front end will collapse unless otherwise supported.
May use a jack or whatever as support under the engine, but wouldn't rely on just a jack long term -- say overnight -- because it might gradually sink down.
There are of course many varieties of front end lifts available, such as

An example of front end lift in use --
