I've got the 530 pitch sprockets on this bike. I've gone from a 16t counter to a 17t. Is there room to put on an 18t counter, without having to remove the little splatter shield that bolts on around it??

I do almost all highway riding, so I'm trying to cut down on the high RPM's at cruising speed, as much as possible....

I have the smallest rear sprocket that Z1 said is available for this bike, so my only choice is to go bigger on the counter.

I doubt that's your only choice.
It's probably a bad idea to remove that shield.
You can get custom rear sprockets from Sprocket Specialist, they made the 37 tooth rear for mine.

I have the same bike with 530 chain. 17t is the biggest counter you can fit.

Yea I wasn't liking the idea of removing the little metal shield. I've done a little bit of searching for a smaller counter sprocket, and haven't found one yet.

Did the 37t rear sprocket make a good reduction of your cruising RPM's ?? What size counter sprocket are you running ??

You need a smaller countershaft sprocket only if you want to go slower but have increased acceleration. So I'm assuming it's a smaller rear sprocket you're seeking, and the links above are your answer.

My experiences don't apply, as my 37 tooth rear sprocket came with the NOS Dealer Option KZ750 twin Morris Mag Wheel kit that I bought on eBay (second one I've had), and it changed rear wheel diameter from a 18" to a 16", so there's no way to compare it. On my previous bike with the Morris Mags I had to go to Sprocket Specialists to get a sprocket as there are no stock sprockets that fit the Morris mag.

I assume you have a 38 tooth rear, as that's the smallest commonly available over the counter for your bike.

It's got a 38t rear on it now.

I called Z1, and asked them to set me up with the tallest set of 530 pitch sprockets available for my bike. Or the maximum gearing that fits my bike, that will lower the cruising RPM's as much as possible. I found out they sold me sprockets that matched the stock gearing that the bike came out with. I was pretty disappointed with them doing that, especially when I later discovered they sell taller sprockets than what they sold me.

They sold me a 16t counter, and a 38t rear, leading me to believe these were the tallest I could go. Then I saw they had a 17t counter available for my bike. So I had to buy a second counter sprocket, which gave me about 4 more MPH at cruising speed, or lowered my RPM's by about 400 RPM.

I am looking for a 37t 530 pitch rear sprocket. I don't know if a 36t would be to much, making it difficult to take off from a dead stop ??

IMO the bike is running to high of RPM's running at 70 / 75 MPH.

It was about five years ago, and the cost was around $70
It's probably more like $90 by now. Give them a call.

Someone here was running 17/32 on a 750 twin. IIRC he said he was lightweight and he had no problem pulling away from a stop. Bountyhunter might remember.

WOW that's a BIG change in the gearing !! I think I'm probably to heavy to be able to pull that gear setup off !! I bet I could get along with a 36t rear, but hate to take the chance on spending more money on something that doesn't work for me..... I've got a motorcycle recycle warehouse fairly close by. I think I'm going to get the measurements off the mounting holes on the rear sprocket, and go see if they have any smaller sprockets that will bolt right up, before I have something one off made.
