Puttin together an old prostreet look and have stock motor for now and wondering what sprockets are best for "quick" on the street . . . not looking for top speed but more how fast from 0-100. Basically if it was a car i would opt for the 4:11 gear rate if you know what i mean !!!

What front and rear sprockets can you reccommend ?? Also stick with the 630 series chain ??? Its 10 over swingarm and i have one nice ex630 oring chain and will have to buy another one to take up the gap but i have two nice rk x ring that are 530 (harley) would it be cheaper to buy two sprockets for the 530 or will the 530 even work ??? Im not even sure what sprockets i have on it now

I dont know what the front is that i am running but the back gear is 33 and I don't feel comfortable riding more than 90. Fornarelli racing did it for me and it went from being asleep to wheel spinning hang on. For stock the rear gear and I one different than stock in front is what he did. But you lose top end.

i run 18/47 sprockets/530 chain/4in over arm,bike "pulls" extremly hard in the streets,1st 2nd and 3rd gears it feels like it will tear your arms off.

16/40 with 530 tops out aound 115-120 and change.but on my z1 with the 1197 motor you had to stop and wait for your head to catch up after most stoplight bashes!

so why did you guys go to 530 chain ??? I happen to have it laying around would be my reasoning 1!!! Where do you buy 530 sprokets for kz1000 ????


So the two different gearings suggested here arent that far off witht he idea that 1 tooth down in the front is equal to 3-4 up in the rear correct ????

sprockets are not gears....more like pulleys with teeth
no matter the tooth pitch...530 or 630 or 525...etc
Take the diameter of the front sprocket not including the teeth X Pi (3.14159)and diameter of the rear not including the teeth X Pi (3.14159)
now dividing the result of the rear with the result of the front will give the ratio.
same as dividing by the teeth
my kz1000 has a mono shock setup now and i prefer the 630 because i have a very long chain and the 630 stretches alot less and lasts twice as long but weighs twice as much for the same gearing..
a 46 tooth 630 rear is 10.5 inches diameter...
a rear 48 tooth 530 is less than 9 inches

the 16t front sprocket gives you a little bit more of a jump off the line while the 40 gives you a little more on the top side im thinking,or am i looking at it backwards?anyway that number was arrived at by my hero many years ago when i decided i didnt need to try and do 140 anymore since i new i couldnt keep up with the sportbikes on topend,so it was set up for being able to do quick sprints up to around 120 or so.and it worked out pretty good! when i get the new 1385 and the turbo bolted on i will have to rethink my gearing since it should have enough torque to hoist itself onto back wheel at any speed in any gear at will without buzzing me to death!
