My picture is bad but thanks. Do you know if the springs in the new one is the same?
The one roller with all the wear seamed to be riding over the edge of the 58T gear. It sounds like the new style has addressed this problem.
This wear had me thinking the plate was damaged as well. But not sure, so easier to replace it then have to rebuild it again.

There's a lot of vibration down there with the primary chain and all. Doesn't seem much that can be done about it.

Oh ya that's the one that was stuck inside and caused the wear on the roller all have been compressed from there proper length.
Kinda painful to think that little part made my bike not be able to start.
I'm glad to have pulled the engine anyway to clean the frame up and other small things. I have found
So now with the secondary shafts out I can touch the cam chain threw the oil pan opening and it seems tight,
Well I'm only pressing on it with my finger so let's hope. Under running tension could be a hole different thing anyone have any input on this Thanks Dan in Toronto Canada.

I guess that piece of spring steel got lodged and made that cut in the roller. How would it escape?

Just popped mine out yesterday on the 550, it had been slipping and squealing like a pig for a long time.

The rollers look like yours, smooth to the touch but with a lot of surface marking. The starter gear was polished with very little sign of the original rough machined finish. I had a spare but that one was notchy, with witness marks where the rollers have engaged and depressions in it's surface.

Has anyone worked out how to recondition these starter gears? maybe machining the outer circumference down and sweating on a tyre?

Hey Tyrell I've been only able to find one person that try'd to rework his and he made it too big and that tore it up...... what you'd shoot for is 1,6635 to 1,664........... since it needs to very tough (heat treated) I'm thinking it would be hell to get machined properly and not be warped ......not to mention the final cost.

Check out the thread "KZ650 starter clutch" on the last page of the tread Ed did a link to where this was try'd and failed ...... you commented once on it too.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationThanks, I seem to remember that thread. Probably not feasible for one-offs, but in 100 units plus I guess?

Anyone seen these?
