Mine has electronic ignition which retains the points. Works great, points never wear out.KZ1000LTDPENNSYLVANIA wrote: Has anyone converted your KZ over to electronic ignition from points and condenser.

Dynatek makes something similar, lot cheaper than a full electronic ignition.

Well, now after reading all your responses, I'm beginning to wonder. The manual shows points and condenser but I've never popped the cover off yet.
And yes, it is for my 1979 in my avatar.
Thanks for the tips all!

Possibilities under the points cover could include points or Kawasaki electronic or Dyna-S or other aftermarket electronic ignition.
The stock Kawasaki electronic ignition would include an IC Igniter under the right side cover, something like this:
Aftermarket Dyna-S electronic ignition is often used to replace points or to replace the later Kawasaki electronic ignition.
When a stock points ignition is replaced with an aftermarket Dyna-S electronic ignition, the stock ignition coils may be retained, but are often replaced with green Dyna 3 ohm coils, or 4 ohm coils.
When the Kawasaki electronic ignition is replaced with Dyna-S, the Igniter is no longer used. And the coils are usually replaced with higher resistance coils, such as green Dyna 3 ohm coils.
The stock Kawasaki electronic ignition (with IC Igniter) uses an ignition coil with less resistance than used by a points ignition or a Dyna-S ignition.
Presence of the Igniter doesn't guarantee a Kawasaki electronic ignition under the points cover, because a Dyna-S (or other aftermarket ignition) might have been installed leaving the non-functional Igniter in position.
If the bike has green Dyna ignition coils fitted, the green coils were likely installed along with a Dyna-S ignition.
Good Fortune!
