KZ Simple Wiring Help

22 Sep 2010 12:45 - 23 Sep 2010 13:24

Whats Up Guys,

I Just Bought My 1st KZ1000!!
It was A drag bike project left at a local shop, completly rebuilt, ugraded cams (No Idea What Lift Or Duration) Sounds AWESOME. BIG CARBS ( Maybe like 54mm?? They Have 145 jets in them,)
Bikes In Great Shape For Only $400!!!

Ill try to include a pic.

BUT>>>

NO WIRING, except ignition, it was being built for the strip, so the gutted the harness and its basically unusable,

Im trying to create my own "simple system", basically an ignition switch, starter button, Headlight switch, and a highbeam switch.

Heres my question,, Has Anyone Else Ever Done It This Way?? Any Tips?

And How Do I Wire The Regulator Up? Its Still On The Bike,
Im going to be working on it all week trying to get it rolling by Saturday.

Thanks Guys

Update!! 9/23
So I have, my headlight/tailight wired up to a switch and fuse.
Highbeam on a seperate switch.
Ignition wired to a 3rd switch, with fuse and a starter button.
Everthing Works!! But,
I Still need answers on this regulator issue.... Ive got a regulator on it marked kokusan RS2127.

Does anyone know if this is a combo Regulator/ Rectifier?

My stator has male harness plugset on it, so does the regulator.... so it would seem that something is missing right???

HELP!!

Thanks Guys

Welcome DangerMan, nice score on the bike.

Try a search for the topic "bare bones for Mattylight". In that thread are several basic (bare bones) wire diagrams posted by loudhvx (a member here with lots of electrical knowledge. There may be one specific to your model/year bike or a general one may work for your application.

Good luck

If you order a good used harness/loom and it comes with damaged connectors, look at these websites:

www.easternbeaver.com
www.vintageconnections.com
www.electricalconnection.com
www.electricalconnection.com/electrical-components/hitachi.htm
www.ratwell.com/technical/Terminals.html
www.findtape.com/shop/product.aspx?id=32...&width=1436&height=0

Harness/loom tape:
Dry Vinyl Tape From Tape Brothers
www.tapebrothers.com

Dry Vinyl Tapes are non-adhesive plasticized polyvinyl chloride film tape. Easy unwinding characteristics - tape clings firmly to it’s own backing for tight wrap. High elongation and good strength to permit trouble-free binding of wiring harnesses for the automotive industry. Dry vinyl tape also used for plating applications- high stretch, good “cling” characteristics and great conformability provide for superior masking in hard chrome and other plating applications.

DVT-76B 2 in. x 250 ft. Black Dry Vinyl Tape
2 in. x 250 ft. Black Dry Vinyl Tape
Our Price: $6.54 Per Roll

www.wiringharness.com
• Non-Adhesive Vinyl Harness Tape, made to the original mil-thickness.
• Just wrap it tightly around the wires and knot the end.
• 100 foot roll is enough to do 3 to 4 harnesses complete.
• Available in three different widths, as original.
• Correct for all years (1955 to Present).

Part # Description Price

I can draw up a diagram similar to what Leon posted, but I need to know if you are running points? Also you mentioned a combo regulator rectifier. Is that confirmed. Can you post a pic of the reg/rec and maybe someone here can confirm it's a combo or a stand-alone reg or rec?
