I'm trying to find out what the brass pin behind the choke is on my 81 kawasaki 440 ltd carburetor. It is shooting gas out of it. Also if this is something that can be fixed or what I can do. This is my first bike so I'm new to most of this.

Is that a solid brass pin or is it a hollow brass port/nipple?

Interesting question! I do not see that port on the Kawasaki diagram of the 1981 KZ440A2 (LTD) carbs (see 2nd image below). Do you know if those are the original carbs for that bike? Ed

From eebbaayy photos it's stock & it does not appear to be hollow,
so my guess is that it's a solid pin that acts as a plug & I guess it's leaking at the base. ???
But his description kinda belies that guess.

Likely it's a drill plug that has loosened. Apply some red loctite to it, 262, and punch it back in with a small hammer and punch until it's flush.

I would not try to hammer it flush. eebbaayy photos clearly show the thing projecting from an orifice.

Does the other carb also have the pin? I would remove the carbs from the bike & spray compressed air or carb cleaner thru the various orifices to figure out what's what. The shapes of the passages cast into the carb body can give clues.

KZ440 carburetor body --- 4th photo --- pin appears solid .

It's the atmospheric vent. Gas comes in the carburetor, to prevent trapped air it must bleed out somewhere.

Fas shouldnt be coming out of it, time to go thru your carbs
