I started a post earlier on Throttle Cable Repair but have to come to the conclusion as suggested by a few members, to replace the cables. Trying to repair old cables is probably not a good practice.

Anyway, this 77' KZ1000A I'm diligently trying to repair and get running again has lower handlebars mounted on it. As I said earlier, I was able mount one of the shorter cables that came with the bike. Seemed to be the right length and work okay. Manufactured by T.S.K. but no part #.

I saw on Z1 Ent. web-site they have a KZ1000D cable that I believe measures 40" end to end at the inner cable and also a 39" cable GS1100,750,450 that would probably work too?

I was trying to find a cable in length like the current one that I was able to mount, but it measures 36" end to end inner cable.

I'm sure there has been several Forum members that have mounted lower handlebars and therefore have used shorter cables.

If you have a similar set-up like what I have, what cables have you Guys used ( other than having a custom cable made ) that have worked well? Any help from any would be greatly appreciated !!!

For instance, D1 or D2 cables might be just shorter enough to fit nicely.
Or custom cables might be better in some instances.

Good Fortune! :)

Any suggestions from the folks at Z1?

If you look on the Z1 website and go to the stock cable description it states the other cable sizes.
www.z1enterprises.com/ItemDetails.aspx?i...f1000&item=MP03-0001

"Equivalent to OEM: 54012-081, 54012-087, 54012-140, 54012-141, 54012-147, 54012-148, 54012-149, 54012-150 - NOW WITH CHROME ELBOW AND NUT.
Motion Pro Throttle Cable 03-0001 - 43.5" long (end-to-end for the inner cable) with 4.0" slack (max. amount of end-to-end movement)

Fits Kawasaki KZ550-A1/A2/A3 (KZ550-A3 this is a PUSH cable only - see MP03-0110 below for PULL cable), KZ650B, KZ650C, KZ650F, KZ750B, KZ900A, KZ1000A, KZ1000C, KZ1000E, Z1, Z1-A, Z1-B.
If you want slightly longer cables, use KZ900B throttle cables (MP03-0019 or MP03-0020) - these are approximately 1"-2" longer.
If you have the drag bars installed and / or need cables 3.5" shorter - use MP01-0233 universal cable for both push and pull.

I already looked at their web-site and description of cables. As I said earlier in the post that MP01-0233 or possibly even MP04-0036 may work. Have an email sent to Z! Ent. asking this.

I just thought someone on the Forum has used either these cables or something else?

Don't forget... if you go with bars that need shorter cables, don't forget about your clutch cable. This is another that can go shorter.

I'd ride the thing and make sure you like the riding position before buying all the cables.

I have been riding Euro bars for some time now and had just left the stock cables. Now that I'm doing a ground up build I need to adjust the cables. I guess I'll just call Motion Pro And have then make me custom cables..

I soldered and ground a pull end on a broken cable just to be able to ride. I ordered new cables. Now it's in one of my side boxes just in case. I used my plumbing torch, flux and solder to do it but it won't last. Best to buy new.

Try to find cables used on a Z1R or their equivalent. No ideas what the part numbers would be or where to get them but maybe you can cross-reference them. Might be other bikes that may cross fit and suggestions mentioned above. I always tried to go the Z1R route or cables that were listed for that bike. Motion Pro made replacements or I've been told can, so they may be a place to check out. Check out Z1 Enterprises....they usually have what we need or can point you in right direction to get them...
