This is the setup I had. It worked fine until it rained

This is what I use and it works well. I installed this after fitting the k&n rc2222 filters a few years ago. The 90 degree fitting is a 1 way pcv type valve - this ensures nothing will get in. Also, I tried this with a low profile breather cap - It did not work - blew oil out everywhere. That was a surprising gas stop...

Jenkrider, Appreciate the picture. Where does the opposite end of the rubber hose go to? I'm assuming the factory crankcase breather body? Is the hose that you are using 1/2" I.D. ? I'll try to see if I can find a 90 degree 1/2" I.D. PCV Valve.

In this case, the hole was drilled out (in the breather cover) to accept the 1/2" OD tube on the K&N filter. No clamps or hoses needed (friction fit), and the oil stays inside the engine. ;)
There is a definite crankcase odor following my bike around, but that way I know the vent isn't plugged. I've been running the setup (pods excepted) all year, and no oil has escaped yet.

Daveo, Your bike looks Nice ! That's the set-up I like to run with my Pods and Filter too. Have to first see if the vent filter fits under the pods. And I guess once the bike is running, ride it and see if there is excessive blow by?

My bike is an 82, a J-Model engine. Had to rotate the breather about 180 degrees in order to clear the air box and to access the carburetor idle adj. knob. It worked with the pods hanging down, but difficult to get at the carb knob with the filters in the way. :)
