What are you guys using for a crankcase vent filter? I'm going to using the K&N Dual Pod air filters on my 77' KZ1000A ( stock carbs. ) but it looks like these vent filters would hit underneath the air filters? The vent filters usually measure about 2" in overall height. They mount to the stock crankcase vent on the motor.

When I had a crankcase filter on my bike I used the k&n filter attached to the crankcase with an elbow joint. The vents are unnecessary and mostly for looks. A long piece of tube leading from the vent to the ground would also work the same if you don't want to go buy more stuff

I would run tubing behind the engine towards the ground. A filter could get clogged w oil & road grime n stuff and maybe allow water to enter the breather port???

The elbow joint that your running or did appeared that it probably mounted the vent filter back a little for clearance? The vent filters that are listed on the internet ( 12mm I.D. on the rubber mount ) are relatively cheap $5.00, so inexpensive try.

Yes. The elbow joint will mount a filter back far enough to avoid a clearance issue with the pod filters. As Martin-csr said, the long hose running towards the ground is a better alternative to the crankcase filter

As an option, if I do use the vent filter, where did you buy the elbow joint or use for it?

It was just an elbow joint from the hoses section of advance auto parts. It was a little too big at first but I cut it down to fit

I'll look at Auto Zone or similar today. Was actually looking for an S shaped rubber hose to mount the vent filter vertically rather than horizontally. Which way was your filter mounted?

Also, was your vent filter the style that is a female style of rubber mount or did it have a tube that pushed into the rubber elbow?

Run a piece of clear rubber hose from vent up under seat, zip tie it to upper frame tube to keep it from kinking and run it towards rear of bike. :)

Well that's an idea too. I just thought the vent filter looked trick, but maybe it's not really needed and is a detriment?

You lose the baffeling from stock cover if you use one of those, lot better chance of blowing oil out. ;)
