Mikuni BS34 Float valve mania
04 Apr 2013 07:35 - 04 Apr 2013 07:37
Im almost finished building my first set of BS34SSCV carbs for my KZ1100 Spectre and the float
tabs seem to be bent to the extreme in order to set my floats to 18.5mm per the manual. Im using valves from an ebay rebuild kit. Anyone seen the tabs this extremely bent before? When the valves close the pins are being pushed sideways abit.

Remember to check/adjust the fuel level in each bowl with the clear tube method, described quite often here.
You may spend lots of time with the tangs to achieve 18.6mm, only to discover that the desired fuel level is not correct after the bowls are filled with fuel.
Does anyone else think that OEM Kawasaki (Mukini) fuel valves are superior to those sold in the aftermarket carb. rebuild kits? If so, why?

As mentioned, don't worry about trying to adjust float level to a given xxx mm. Use the clear tube method as can be found on this site using the search feature. The object of the game is to achieve a specific fuel level in each carb. That will not necessarily be achieved by making all the floats exactly level in dry carbs, because each float's buoyancy may vary a little. Using the clear tube method to set the floats will assure you that the fuel level in each carb is correct. Ed

I tested them and found that the fuel is around 3mm from the bottom surface of the carbs. Im surprised to see that for some bs34s the floats are set at 22.5mm and for the Spectres, manual recommends 18.5, if the bike is on sidestand, the gaskets are soaked. I soaked ATF into the gaskets before assembling, supposed to prevent sticking. Im posting pictures in case it helps anyone learning this like I am.
