Inline Visu-filter junk
21 Aug 2012 11:36
Maybe this is the dreaded ethanol effect? Don't know or care, but this filter *was* a straight through filter last I looked. I go out to ride to work last Friday and have a huge gas leak because the thing did this and the fuel line pulled off.

No, it was just a straight run from the carbs up to the petcock. This all happened when the bike was sitting in the garage. I've only ridden it around 50 miles this summer. Somewhere between the last ride and last Friday it decided to soften and bend.

Another reason to turn off the petcock when parked.
Presents a situation where perfect float valves can't save the day.

By looking at that filter. I would take a good look inside my tank, it looks packed with stuff.
Remember, don't work on your bike so much you never ride it.

I've encountered the same thing, although not as severe... the ends were bendy.
After seeing that one, I guess I'll look into one w a metal body - either Emgo or Pingel.

See why I pretty much tout all aftermarket as garbage? Everything I get though aftermarket always ends up this way.

Ethanol In Gasoline Problems (E-10, E-15, E-20, E-30, & E-85)
The Ethanol in the gas has been reported to attack the glue used in gas filters, rendering them useless, as the paper filter medium is now coated with glue. It also softened the filter hose connection ends, causing possible failure.

For sure a fuel compatibility issue,
However you give no clue type of fuel used?
Around here in Ohio, pure gasoline can still be located, usually at places catering to race car crowd,
also some stations have Premiun that is ethanol free.
Any early Kaw should not be using Regular, pricey maybe, but pay me now or pay me later.
You see the filter, now just imagine every, oring, gasket, seal and even some metal
parts in the fuel system and what they are turning into.
I'd switch fuel suppliers, and maybe some Sta-Bil ethanol treatment and cross my fingers

Around here it's mandated by law we run ethanol in the gas for most the year so we have no choice. I've never had any problems all these years up until now. I never ran an inline filter and never saw the benefit really. Now I really don't see the benefit. Another add-on that is Chinese junk most likely.

29 Dec 2012 13:28I wouldn't run a bike WITHOUT an inline filter unless you like cleaning carbs!Never had an issue, right? You will...
