Alright guys. I have a project bike I've been working on. Its a 74' Z1 900 with a 73' Z1 900 motor. As Im going to put on the gas tank and connect the fuel lines, it looks like the fuel lines from the carbs have either been cut off or jerked off and I dont know how to connect them.

Here is a picture of the fuel lines. Where do they connect to?

And here is another picture with a bigger line that has also been cut. This line runs up and under the seat at the base of the tank but looks like it has been cut. You can see this in the first picture. Here is the bigger line im talking about.

And here is a picture of the bike as it sits

They should just fit over the nipples on your petcock on the gas tank. If you replace the line (might be a good idea) you can run without clamps, although some would recommend them anyways.

The second line is the engine breather. I can't say for sure on the Z1's where that goes, but on my Kz900 there was originally a small hose that went from the breather to the bottom of the airbox.

But the part I'm trying to figure out is I have four fuel lines, (one from each carb) and ONE nipple on the petcock??

Stock VM 28mm carbs, only 2 fuel inlets (#1) for two carb bodies... Have another (#1) for the other two carbs. The other two hoses your finding maybe #2 (Vent Pipes). Need to confirm which carbs you have.

Original Z1 petcock has two fuel outlet nipples.
Original Z1 has two fuel lines.
One fuel line attaches to one petcock nipple.
The other fuel line attaches to the other petcock nipple.

If the petcock has been replaced with another petcock that has only a single fuel outlet nipple, use a tee fitting in the single line from the single petcock nipple to provide a fuel nipple for each of the two fuel lines.

Besides the two fuel lines, there are also two carb VENT hoses.
Each VENT hose must exit to open air.
Each VENT hose is routed from the carbs to exit to open air underneath the bike or underneath the seat.

On a stock Z1, the crankcase vent connects via an "S" shaped hose into the air box.

The crank case may alternatively be vented through a hose exiting underneath the bike.

Get some of these (not necessarily from eBay) to fasten the fuel line to the tank; they make removing and reconnecting the fuel line very easy.

Wow, thanks guys that exactly what I needed. I went ahead and ordered the original z1 petcock with the two nipples. Would you guys suggest an inline fuel filter?T

Unless your fuel tank is squeaky clean inside - yes; and even if it is it's not a bad idea. Ed

Yes, in each and every fuel line so that no gasoline ever reaches the carbs without having first passed through an in-line filter.

Where needed to help avoid kinking or otherwise improve fuel line routing, the 90° in-line filter could be another option.
