this bike came into our shop with carb issues. Owner requested a "carb cleaning". However I suspect he has been "working" on the carbs and has them totally f**ed up. The carbs are Keihin CV's & stock looking (would the Mikuni or Keihin be the stock carb ?). Internal engine is stock, externally it has a kerker 4 into 1 header and K&N individual air filters. The thing is, he has 165 main jets !
Plugs look gas fouled of course. Isn't that size of main jet way too big, even with the kerker, etc? I worked on these bikes back when they are new and don't recall using that size of main jet.

That 165 main jet might be a dynojet main which is completely different fuel amount than a mikuni main. Check to see the taper and needle number to check if a dyno jet kit was installed with those pod filters - most likely.
If it was a 165 kehin jet swapped in, then it would be around the right size.
Mikuni jet numbers flow different rates of fuel than Kehin and Dynojet Jets of the same number!
The stock carbs for that bike are Mikuni BS34 CV.
The stock jets would be a #40 Pilot, stock needle in middle clip position, and #122.5 Main, but this would be too lean for pods BY FAR! Try a 140 Main to be safe, and set the mixture screws around 3 turns out to start.
Good luck.

TeK9iNe is right, the only thing I'll add is to search how many threads there are here about individual air filters, "Pod's", and the results.
Then recommend a Stock Airbox setup to your customer. It would be way cheaper to set that back up, and more streetable.

I've got stock CV carbs on mine with K&N filters and a non standard exhaust, main jet is 135, standard pilots and air screws 2.5 turns out. Runs fine.
I had an issue with mine when running on the pilot jet and I found the seals perished on the pilot tube bungs, it was running like a broken leg and new seals sorted it out.
165 main sounds far too big for CV carbs.

not jets from a dyno kit. jet diameter is 0.0640 and stamped 165 which is matching for the Keihin jets. Bike is running way to rich so going leaner will be my first direction. Owner just bought the bike (not running).
what you have (135's) is exactly where I was going to start.
thanks,
Z. Ray
