Has anyone ever tried this on a set of carbs?

I'm doing an entire tear down/rebuild of a 4 carb assembly i got off ebay.

I will already have to make a few parts on a lathe and i figure if I can save a few bucks on gaskets why not.

the entire assembly only cost me $20 bucks so if i can get away with something that works well and keep the entire project under 50 bucks ill be very happy.

Any other thoughts or ideas?

Thanks

Inner tube rubber will disintegrate if hit by gasoline. I have used it to make vibration damper type gaskets for mounting the odd piece, but nothing related to fuel.

Yeah, even just being exposed to sunlight for 8 hours or so degrades an inner tube. I used them to hold some turn signals together. By the end of one day you could see the rubber cracking.

OEM, or better.

If you keep it under $50, you might have some kind of guiness record or something!

I was thinking of the same thing for gaskets between the carb holders, and the head.
Is this totally crazy?
They wont see any sunlight, but will see some gas, and heat.

Existing carb holders seem ok, with little indentations from where they were mounted. And I definately have air leak on the intake.
Just trying to save $80 for some new ones from z1e.

Why not just get some legitimate gasket material? I made some out of paper material that worked fine (between carb holders and the head). There are other materials that may be better than paper, like the rubber-impregnated cork gasket material available at most auto parts stores. It was like $5 for 1 or 2 square feet.
