OK-I finally got the KEIHIN CV34s clean and I am putting them back together again with carb kits(Bowl rubber ring;pilot: screw,spring,washer,oring;float-needle valve, oring for drain screw and oring for "plastic plug" and that little metal slug thing you could put over your pilot air screw if you wanted to.I just got one question:is it critical to put the plastic plug over top your pilot/slow jet?For some reason the kits I bought give you three sizes of oring: the tiny one goes into the pilot air screw passage-that I get,the biggest one goes over the drain-screw for the float bowl-I'm good, and the final one(the in-between size one)-goes onto that plastic plug thing that goes over top your pilot jet.I keep on: chewing the oring up-trying to force it into the pilot jet passageway,or break the plastic plugs trying to push them in.( Near as I can figure-this oring is like a P-3(1.9mm)(metric),the 3/32 ones look a little bit smaller and might be OK.Anyway these are the sizes I have access to,and I am going to keep on until I break all of the plugs I guess, but can any one tell me what is the significance of this plug, and will the bike run if I leave these plugs off? Also: does anyone have any idea what size these orings are for this, and where I can get some of these plastic plugs? Finally does anyone have any suggestions for getting this done?I haven't done a set of these for awhile, but I don't remember having this much "fun" with these carbs:laugh: THANX TO ALL!!!

From what I've been told, you need the plug so you get the right vacuum "draw" for the pilot jet. I had the same problem with the carb kit that you're having. I tried the first one, couldn't get the plug in. Ended up trimming the o-ring to get it to fit, then didn't put in on for the rest of them.

Yes, you need those plastic plugs. BIke will run ike crap if they are missing - if it runs at all. The pilot jet gets its gas from off either the secondary or primary main through an internal passage. I remember putting O rings on the plugs but not having the problems you mentioned. I've heard others say they were a tight fir and they had to trim them. Perhaps I used the larger O rings. I know I did'nt put any on the drains .

Good luck

Sorry don't have an answer for the question, but I do have another question.
What is the function of the metal slug that covers the pilot screws? Is it necessary to put in the slug?

In the US that metal slug covering the air adjustment screws was put there to stop people messing with the screws. Unless you want to be absolutely 100% original then you dont need them. So - no , not necessary.

Thanks JR for the answer to the slug question. I don't want to hi jack this thread but do you or anyone else know how many turns the air pilot screws need to be turned out?

On the 750/4 with CV34 carbs the spec is 2 turns out. Like TB33 says 1 1/2 turns out would be a good start and go from there
