Had a failed plug repair on the motor I'm putting into my kz1000 project, needing a head and still having not sold my 900ltd project (80mkii motor don't worry) I 'temporarilly stole it's head. Color me surprised, performance cams fresh 1075 cylinders and a Dyna ignition. I used the wrong motor on this one.

But, I can say I'm not going to re-use the dyna. I'm using stock kz pickup plate instead. Might need to get rid of the dyna and get me a new head instead... Then I still have a titled frame to fo with it

Was thinking about fixing it, before the insert pulled on the other head (timesert style deal) I was gung ho on fixing it, but good lord, cylinder head prices seem a bit high to me.

Had it listed on the local craigslist for $250, thought I was throwing out a decent price, realize that woulda been a steal now

Probably could, not sure how welding the plug hole on kzs goes, the engine that the now screwed up head came off of only had 16,000 miles, tore it down to double check (bike was a total junker, stripped down beat up and parts missing so who knows if the mileage was right) back cut the trans, freshened the bores and ended up having the timesert style insert pull from the head leaving a pretty sizable hole.

The engine I stole the head off of came from a bike that I didn't think much of, it was a wreck (literally) that came with cracked dyna coils, a SMASHED yosh pipe, rearsets and a gsx front end. Guess I shouldn't be too surprised in retrospect. The engine is actually from a 79 ltd even though the wreck was an 80 mkii.

I've seen some damn good build up welding. You have a head so it's not a deal breaker. :)

I agree.... I've seen some amazing weld jobs on busted up cast AL alloy heads.

May have to look into it, gotta find a welder, my rig isn't up to it, and I hate doing important welds that arent in steel.

I've also still got a spare frame, bodyset a set of zx9 forks and another zx6 swingarm, so if this head gets fixed I may have to cobble that together

Stole the ported head and andrews cams from the other motor. Guess I gotta find someone to weld this one closed then I can surface grind the boss and re-drill and tap.

Bike's starting to look err bikey. Gonna pass on using the dyna S and instead stick with the kaw pickup plate.

Tomorrow I have got to sort thru some of my junk, was happy to find a spare head and barrels... Then realized they were Suzuki stuff. The carbs off the mkii's motor were maxi-bored to boot.
