Bin the Barnetts, stock plates are best. Barnetts tend to shed fibres and block the oil strainer.

Kibblewhite do some nice "red" racing clutch springs intended for the 1000 but they also fit the 750. Nice and heavy, your clutch won't slip with those in. Washers probably won't be enough.

on my CB500/4 racer, the barnetts cured some mild clutch slip i was having with stock plates.

I change oil at every race weekend, so maybe that's the reason i never had trouble with them? cant recall seeing anything bad in my strainer in my yearly motor tear downs

I realize now that you are mr 750 turbo.... :) yep, i bet your forced induction babies will be happier with more oil.

I wasnt aware of the difference in pump capacity either, just thought about getting a relatively fresh pump from a newer model, opened up the pump i bought to check the internals were fine and only then discovered that the zephyr's rotor is quite a few millimeters wider than the gpz's. might be worth checking part numbers to see is if the newer ZR7 pump is as big, guess it is. more opportunities to find them.

I had already modified my oil pump to take a wider rotor on my race engine, it's just handy to have one you can get off the shelf (or ebay).

You won't find Barnett plates in the drag race community. EVERYONE uses stock plates. If they work for you then fine. My road bike made 196hp on stock plates and Kibblewhite springs.

OK, good to know, will surely keep the stock plates too now!

I do like the idea of having the stronger clutch basket of the turbo with the extra plate in my bike, so if you have a spare one, let me know :)

It wouldn't fit as the gear on the back of the clutch and on the primary shaft is different to speed the gearbox up for more torque. Think the primary shaft itself is different too?

the NA 750 has 29T on the primary, the turbo 31T, indeed speeds the clutch up for more torque capacity. I would need to change both basket and small gear for a swap.

Thinking about this just in case the clutch is not up to it as is. With the extra preload the effort at the lever is already on the high side, I wouldnt want to increase spring force more in case of slip.

We'll see when i hit the track....

to qualify as vintage here, bike needs approval from the Italian federation. So had to mock it together to take photos and send for approval. It's not ready yet, top end is empty :)

Still quite a lot of stuff to do :P
