piston top cleaning

Can I use a wire brush to get the carbon off of the top of the pistons, or will it damage them?

Thanks!

quickest and easiest way if there is a lot.the other option is to use gasket remover if its not completly baked on.when using a wire wheel dont concentrate in one area too long and be carefull around the ring lands

a wire brush is fine, I also would use some carb cleaner, it will help loosten the hard carbon, not knowing if you have the pistons off or how you are working on them, just be careful around the ring lands

Best and quickest way to clean them is while they are still in a running engine, just bu using combustion chamber cleaner.

Wow, Okatar, can't argue with that! Where do you buy that combustion chamber cleaner?

Besides the spray-can products used by spraying into carbs while engine's running, other products are just added to fuel supply.

PBBlaster sprayed or poured through spark plug holes into combustion chamber, and allowed to soak for awhile, supposedly allows the carbon buildup to be blasted out the exhaust when the engine is next run. Or perhaps sprayed into carbs on running engine until engine dies, let sit for awhile to soak inside combustion chambers, then crank and run engine.

Sometimes water mist is sprayed into carbs while engine's running, to reportedly help blow out the built up carbon.

Results from the Mopar product (spray-can?) are impressive. :cheer:

Wonder how the other products and water spray compare?

Good Fortune! :)

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationchrispysaki wrote:

I did a whole thread on this some time ago, I will try and find it and post a link. The one you see in the picture is from any Mopar dealer. Or you can buy it in different packaging on eBay from this guy. I bought a whole case because it was co cheap.

Here is one link, but I know there is another which I will try to find.
