Anyone know if a 1100 cylinder will drop into a 1000 block on the J motors? I would like to perform this task and would like to find out before I start tearing into the engine. I noticed that the GPZ1100 was a US option that other countries had the GPZ1000. I do know that the 1000 Cyliders will drop into the 900 block.

i know the maximum bore on kz1000 sleeves is 1105,although i prefer the 1075 myself.i think a stock gpz1100 is actually only like 1052 so unless youre going to punch the sleeves out to between 1105 and 1170 which is what i think the max bore on the stock 1100 sleeves is i dont know what youre gaining. ;)

Cylinder blocks.. Not interchangeable. If you have a J model block/GPZ1100 block you must use a J model or GPZ1100 cases.

I thought he was asking if a 1100 block would fit on a J bottom end :)

It would help if he would clarify things a little :)

the way I read it, he wants to put a set of 1100 cyl on a stock j1000 motor, I dont think that will work wothout some modification, and prob not worth the effort

Why not? It's a cheap way to get more displacement (if you use 81-82 1100 parts), and the most you would need to do is clean up the bores in the case with a die grinder or a Dremel.

The 81-82 1100's use 17mm wrist pins just like the 1000 J, the 83 and up use 18mm wrist pins.

IIRC, the stock 1100 cylinders can be opened up to 1170 cc's, and that's a lot cheaper than buying a big block for the J.

I have a 1100 cylinder block that's going on a J motor with 1105 Wiseco pistons, just as soon as I get to Omaha to pick up the bike (only been about a year so far) :D

help me out here maybee i'm reading this wrong.i have never done this so i'm just trying to figure it out.this is a quote from APE .
The later "J model" has no kick starter, and the cam chain tensioner hole in the cylinder block is round. The cc's cast on the cylinder is 998.
This engine also became the GPZ1100 in 1981 and '82, and virtually everything between them is the same.
(The '83-'84 GPZ1100 was changed). Cylinder blocks and lower engine cases are NOT interchangeable.

******** You can not put a J model cylinder on an older style lower end, and vise versa.

steel u say u are going to put a 1100 block on a j motor ??? is ape saying its just the 83/85 1100 u cant use?

I am so happy that I am not the only one who is confused:unsure: I do not feal so stupid now:whistle: I THINK what the Apes are saying is that you canot put a J Block on a Previously built KZ (before 81)And also after 82. To claryfy my intent is to; use a GPZ1100 block take it to 1171 and use it on a CSR1000 block. Between the confusion I believe that the question was answered as YES. I can do that without having to remove the cases and enlarging the slips. At least I feal confident enough to take the top end off and try it, and to spend the money for the pistons and punching. I will post some pictures of the project tomorrow.

Cylinder blocks from 1981 (except the 81 cop bike) on will not fit the 1980 and earlier models. That is according to my reading of the APE page and other references.

I have a J block and a 83 1100 block and they appear identical, I think I will have time on Sunday to dig them out and measure them myself to confirm.

The J block that I have has been bored out for a 1105 kit, and looking at it makes it obvious why a 1105 kit is not recommended for the J blocks. Those sleeves are thin!

If APE Jay posts here to confirm what I just said, then I won't have to dig them out :)
