None stated. PM's are happening. There's a guy selling KZ 1000 fenders and I was interested in one. After a few comments I figured he was a scam. After three months he still has them listed. Not as secure as here so buyer beware.

I think I would vote for letting this one go. There are plenty of missing parts that will take time to track down, and a bunch of wrong parts, but that's not what scares me. What I don't like are the mods to the frame.

The rear triangles are gone (mounts for rear pegs and exhaust). There are extra bracing visible at the rear of the tank. And that's the ugliest rear-set brake setup I've ever seen. It impossible to know what other parts of the frame have been cut and hacked without taking all of the body work off. Anyway, frame mods are very hard to reverse, and those mods don't look well done.

The price may be high depending on how many pieces are missing. It's possible that the whole front end is from a different bike, since the bars, controls, gauges, brakes, and fender are all wrong.

But if you just want to clean it up and ride it like it is, and it's currently running well and rideable, it's probably not a terrible deal.

If you do buy it and need help figuring out what you have and what's missing, I'd be happy to help. I know the Z1R parts diagrams inside and out by now. :)

DOHC: Thanks for the attention. I was wondering if any one would really examine the photos. It's sort of like Where's Waldo. probably more like CSI. Anyway these are the same things I found. Maybe a front-end collision? Maybe the bike was used for drag racing?
Thanks again, Chris

You've already determined the bike is going to take some work, especially the frame modifications by the PO. However, if you're really obsessed with a Z1R, what are the chances you'll find another one? A quick check of EBay shows none currently listed, and only 1 in the completed listings of the last 60 days. That one sold for over $11K. I guess I'd be asking myself 2 questions. 1) What are the chances of finding a better one? 2) If I buy this one for $3K, can I restore it for less than $8K, keeping my total investment under the current market value?
$3K isn't a bargain, but it's not outrageous either. Long distance price negotiations are tough. The seller has no incentive over the phone, and he is not going to budge after you've driven that far to pick it up. You obviously want the bike at that point. When you only have one choice, it becomes your best choice by default.

Buy it...you don't have to fix as original to start with. Buy get it running and enjoy it . Then start sourcing parts to restore later.

Did you get any quotes on shipping the bike? Use that to negotiate the price. Tell the guy...I really want the bike, but I can't make the 1,400 mile trip until after the weather breaks. Shipping is going to cost me $xxx . If you'll lower the price to split the shipping cost with me, you can have your money by next week. Factor in what it's going to cost you to pick the bike up and you'll be well ahead. Sellers are motivated to negotiate by the thought of real cash almost in their pocket.
