Here's a photo of the other S1 that I know of that got wrecked. It happened while it was standing still when it got hit. I was standing in pit lane not too far away from where it happened at the Road America AMA race back in 1982. Some French-Canadian rider thought they said there was going to be TWO warmup laps before they would grid for the start of the heat race. All the other bikes were gridded and waiting for the green flag to drop, and here comes this fool flat out up the hill on the main straight. As he crested the top of the hill on his TZ750, he saw that everybody else was stopped. He hit the brakes as hard as he could, lost control of his bike, and all hell broke lose. His bike barely missed Roberto Pietri's (#88) leg by inches who was on the last row. It then missed the bikes and riders on the second to last row, and then it plowed into the back of the S1 you see pictured here!!!!! The impact blew the S1 and its rider like twenty or so feet straight up into the air!!!!
I was at that time standing next to Gene Romero, and we both looked at each other, and shook our heads in disbelief. I will never forget that sound as the two bikes hit each other. Unbelievably neither rider was seriously hurt. The AMA told the French-Canadian rider to pack up his $hit, and never come back. The fool never even apologized to the other rider for what he did.
Scratch one more S1!!!! The swing arm pivot bolt was pushed through the back of the cases till it hit the output shaft!!! That's how hard it got hit by the TZ750.
